Anyone have a good grasp of the inner workings? My my co-worker mentioned something about a hammer valve or water hammer. Long story short my toilet started making a banging sound while the tank filled up. When i lifted the float up it stopped. Anyone know how to make that banging sound stop? Or recommend a plumber? Thanks for any info.

Sorry. I've replaced two toilets, and replaced the workings from inside the tank several times, but never have I experienced a banging or hammering like you describe. I can't imagine what it might be or how to fix it.

Try reversing the polarity on the quadravectorthermalcouple.

I'm not a plumber but that hammering sound comes from the plumbing to the toilet, not the toilet itself.

My gues is @crosscreekcooter will know more.

Could be a couple of things.

    1. The codes used to require a short riser (nipple) of pipe at the stop valve at each plumbing fixture called a hammer arrestor, which would cushion the hydraulic shock of the water finding the end of the water supply pipe, causing what is referred to as air hammer. They are rarely used anymore. Sometimes, even when used if the pipe isn't properly strapped, they will vibrate or slap against a stud or wallboard when a plumbing fixture is activated.

    2. If the float arm has a float ball at the end, you probably have the older style ballcock or water control valve in your toilet, This valve functions much like a faucet in that at the top of the valve where the float rod connects to the valve inside, it compresses a washer against a brass or plastic seat stopping the water flow into the tank when in its raised or full position. The washer may be loose and fluttering, causing a sound similar to NV when he farts.

In days of olde when knights were bold and rubbers weren't invented you'd tie a sock around your cock, and babies were prevented

When my house was repiped, they added the nipple riser arrestors but they weren't so little. They were all about 3-4". Damn big nipples, if you ask me, but I've heard Momma Cooter dons the large nipples.

George got in trouble for taking a book into the bookstore bathroom.
Slug that;s a Riosa toilet and the ballcock is one i'm not familiar with, although i"m gonna bet there is some restriction inside the valve like calcium from the water. You might have to call Delta customer service , I've had good luck with manufacturers replacing the part at no cost. Just tell them it fills slow and makes a horrible noise. That part retails for $65. It may be possible to replace it with a Fluidmaster from HD or Lowes for about 6 bucks. They have few parts and are bulletproof.

I think it depends on if the water swirls down the hole clockwise or counterclockwise. You might have installed a toilet designed for Australia.
