Wise move. Scott is going to run for the Senate. He will point to this during his run. I hope he wins.

Actually, one of the largest known natural gas formations in the world is located about 100 miles off the Northwest panhandle. It's called the Destin Dome.

If you read the link it has already been found and drilled, but not developed, see the link.

And there is other drilling in the past that has not produced commercial oil, see the link.

Thanks, but I am already exceedingly familiar with the area as well as the status of exploration & exploitation.

I would not claim to be massively, but I have some history in the oil industry. I only mentioned the links since your post seemed to indicate that I did not know about them.

You think there will be massive interest in these new blocks? I don't even see enough rigs to have a large response for years.

I only mentioned it because your post stated there probably wasn't interest in the few areas of opportunity. In fact there is great interest. It's been common knowledge for some time that the eastern GOM is loaded with huge gas reservoirs. The De Soto Canyon (which includes the Destin Dome), Atwater, Lloyd Ridge, Middle Ground & Elbow blocks have all been repeatedly layered with detailed seismic data confirming this. However, there were 2 main stumbling blocks with exploitation:
    1. The Fed agreeing to protect the Florida coastline (meaning nothing within sight of the coast, not even flare boom glow) and interference with military training missions originating around Pensacola NAS, Eglin & Hurlburt Field.
    2. Most gas formations east of the Mississippi River are laced with H2S.

There are currently ample, and I mean ample, stacked drill ships in the GOM right now to handle a sudden uptick in activity. As of last week there were 8 ultra-deepwater rigs at anchor near the LOOP facility off Port Fourchon, LA. There are literally at least another dozen large jack-up rigs stacked, waiting for a contract, within 2 days sail of anywhere in the GOM.

This isn't even considering the rigs currently operating in Mexico that would jump at the opportunity to return to the states & a higher daily rate.

Interesting update especially about rigs that were reported to be leaving.

My knowledge is from quite a long time ago and focused more on well logging.

    thanks

Nelson is looking like the Crypt Keeper recently. He does seem to always hold on even in good Rep years however. Him and Scott would be pretty close since Scott isn't that popular himself due to the huge Medicare scam years ago.

    Schlumberger.

It was a long time ago and things have improved a lot, no logging while drilling back then.
