Hey guys.

Looking for a random stat to brighten your day? Look no further than the Men's Basketball RPI. Our Gators are at #4 in the country, with the #1 strength of schedule.

Crazy with 3 losses. Though the 3 teams we lost to are all in the RPI top 50.

I think without digging deep into the numbers, the fact that we have so many "neutral court" wins and 0 "home" wins is really helping our cause with the computers.

If we have a solid conference season, is it conceivable that Jeremy Foley's last act of construction on the O'Dome will actually help us get into the NCAA this year???

Thoughts.

That RPI ranking is very good. Strength of schedule is 1 or 2 depending on the RPI index. While this is great, we have work to do in conference play and need to finish in the top 4 to get the ship going in the right direction as far as recruiting and making the tournament. We also play at Oklahoma and need to win that game.

Not playing any home games is a huge deal. This team obviously needs an elite PG but they're holding their own right now.

Big part of the RPI is the fact that all of our games have been road/neutral. Being 0-3 against the top 25 isn't great, so they're going to need to pick up some wins against quality opponents (which I think they're more than capable of doing).

I'd like to think that this team could still make the tourney without the benefit of the 'no home games' factor used by the computers. Definitely need to get some 'better' wins, though I see that Seton Hall is in the AP Top 30 and Miami is also getting votes. Of the better looking SEC teams (at the moment), we play UK, USCe and Arkansas twice, A&M once. We need to win a few of those, along with the Oklahoma game, and win the games we're supposed to win.

We have done pretty well without playing any home games. Need to continue a high level of play in conference and we will be dancing.

RPI gives some crazy results sometimes even more so earlier in the season.

Is this, like, one of those moral victory things?

Coach is bringing this team along very nicely.....there is so much more to basketball than the damnable, new-fangled 3 point shot.

The 3pt shot is the one thing holding this team back from being top 10-15. Maybe a guard that can consistently make jump shots as well.

Right now the team shoots 32% from the 3 line, which isn't good. If they can get to 38% which is decent they would be much more dangerous.

Have you noticed we are taking less threes and winning?

The biggest positive this year is the free throw percentage sitting at just over 74%. They shot 64% last year and 63% the year before. That's an incredible improvement. Five players are shooting over 80%, and as a team, the last time they shot over 70% was 2011-12. That's going to pay dividends down the road.
