Was Rousey one of the most (if not the most) overrated fighters in history?

UFC was actually decent when it first started

You realize that Judo is predicated on leverage and actually helps smaller opponents handle larger ones. I've been around guys who could apply choke holds mid throw. I've also seen small women beat women half again there size on the ground by applying arm bars. And a 140 lbs is a lot different than a 105 lb spinner.

I know that but just using basic wrestling sprawling techniques a decent larger person won't get thrown by a Judo person 99% of the time. The few times in a UFC mens fight with equal size fighters you ever see it work usually is when the person is caught really off guard or is already beaten half to death.

First off I don't really like her because she seems to lack respect for her opponents which is why she gets knocked out. Secondly it's not really her fault that she's overrated. In the 15 year or so history of UFC it has always been their thing to build up fighters as being invincible just because they get on a 4 or 5 fight win streak against overmatched opponents or opponents that have a bad matchup style. No matter how good you are at a certain style of fighting you will eventually run into someone who is will beat you because they are taller, stronger, better striker or grappler, and no matter how good you are there is always the chance you get caught with a one punch/kick knockout.

As far as Rhonda goes she would probably be smart to take advantage of whatever endorsement deals she can get now the way Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture did once they lost their "invincibility" labels in the ring....

Yep with the size difference and wrestling one year in high school I would be very ashamed if I couldn't pin a female down that size easily. Her only chance would be if I got slipped into a submission hold. Its easy to counteract that Judo stuff she knows if you are a lot stronger and bigger than your opponent and know the basics.

All you had to do was say yes. Better yet, let's give them wooden spoons and rolling pins, too! :law:

I do know one thing. As stupid as the sport of MMA is (and it is STUPID), Ronda Rousey just made $3 million in 48 seconds by getting her ass kicked on national TV. Not a bad gig if you ask me.
I do believe Nunez got $200k for defending her title.

Yep her attitude in addition to the over the top media is responsible for a lot of people loving to see her big fall like this. I remember a lot of the male MMA guys having to bite their tongues when they were asked the stupid questions about Rousey. One issue is she was fighting tomato cans for the most part except Tate those 2 times and she certainly wasn't going out of her way to try and fight Cyborg at a catch weight of 140 or so.

She would be smart to stay retired now as the way to beat her is written - just keep it standing mostly and she isn't capable of defending herself that well.

I don't think she was overhyped or overrated. Someone finally hit her and she just isn't the same. She is broken mentally and maybe has a glass chin.

Funny how Fever always finds himself in these conversations about beating up women.

I see Fever as one of those men that really enjoy these fights.

What the heck? :lol2: This has nothing to do with joke Title 9 hearings at colleges. I would say the same about a male fighter overhyped like that.

I dont pay to watch them anymore actually - used to see a few female fights on undercards years ago at a friends house when we did still watch it. I thought it was kind of silly myself - the women fights anyway. Boxing got so boring I did watch MMA for a while however.

I think she should get credit for the state of women's MMA. Before she came along it was a weak fledgling sport that She dominated to the point that women came out of the woodwork wanting to be like her. She made that division what it is today. She's a judo specialist in a sport that now has women that will kick some azz. I never liked Rousey mainly because they made her out to be some beauty queen and she's just not that hot. But I'll give her credit where credit is due. She raised the interest in her sport and made it a headline act.

Gina Carano is definitely better looking, never got the Rousey is beautiful crowd. Seems like when these fighters get a taste of Hollywood, they get soft as . The sport has definitely past her now, but she has made an impact and a bunch of money while doing it.

It's not judo, it's jui jitsu. Took it for years when I was younger. It's great leverage and submission training. Can make even the biggest and toughest men give up and quit. It's great conditioning and a great tool for teaching leverage control. When I was the strength coach at my old high school we taught all our linemen and lb's some basic jui jitsu. Worked very well in shedding blocks. Just my $0.02
Happy New Year Gators!!!

Yay. Chicks fighting. Right up there with WNBA. Sports for people without a penis. She may be able to beat a few Gatorchatter posters in a fight the same way Lobo would beat them in basketball or Serena would beat us in tennis. Yippee, there's an incredibly high bar. She wouldn't even be a capable sparring partner against the lowest ranked male fighter in the business. It's like watching special Olympics. But what's really funny is that some of the people who will scream the loudest about equality will also be the loudest voices condemning a man who hits a woman in a bar and breaks her face.

She was not overhyped or over rated. Rousey was a pioneer in women's MMA, and wrecked the competition. Women had to evolve their game to beat Rousey, and it looks like Rousey hasn't evolved herself.

This is a similar argument with Fedor. Fedor wrecked and obliterated the competition, but he is a pudgy 230 pound fighter. When heavyweights got bigger, stronger, and faster, Fedor got older and didn't keep up with the changing division (Ok, guys were/are juicing).

She won a bronze medal in Judo. All of them train that Brazilian stuff to an extent.

Good post Raz, but Rousey practiced judo. She was a bronze medalist in the 2008 Olympics in judo. Dang, Fever beat me to the punch.

Fedor was strange - it was like he just got old and slowed down overnight even though he wasn't old yet. He beat a bunch of juiced up steroid guys in his prime.
