Yeah, the longer we follow this brick by brick path with Fooley's Failure Part III and the more empty seats we have in the Swamp we may be forced to hire yet another yardsale coach.

They both will get pink slips it's just a matter of time. Both universities deserve much better coaching than these two can deliver. Neither seems capable of success at this high level - the Peter Principle in action.

Id say Mac needs it more. I think Butch has built more equity at UT, strange as that may seem. I also think Butch is a better coach, as sick as that may seem.

Even if Mac takes us to like 4-7 or 3-8, which is likely, I think he's given 2018 to right the ship, ala Muschamp getting 2014. But his seat going into next season will be an electric chair. I just hope Stricklin doesn't go on the cheap like Foley did. We need to swing for the fences. Hell, maybe Bob Stoops will be well rested by then lol jk. I can, however see Stricklin wanting Mullen, given their MSU connection. It's safe to say the next 12-16 months will be very important, and very interesting.

I've been using Peter Principle to describe this thing for a while.

And honestly, if McElwain had done a better job hiring assistants he probably wouldn't be feeling much heat right now. The fact that he's sticking w/ Nussmeir pretty much has done him in (or will, just a matter of time). Along w/ the other poor hires he made (Nord, Callahan, Dixon, etc) he set himself up for failure. Most successful coaches: Saban, Meyer, Fisher, Swinney, Stoops, Harbaugh, etc have all surrounded themselves w/ very, very good coaches. The fact he's stubbornly sticking w/ this incompetent OC is all we need to know. The fact here is, Nussmeir Peter Principle'd when he was at Alabama...but he's been able to land two more big-time OC gigs. And for what? His past resume is very mediocre/middle of the road - at best. And he gets Alabama, Michigan, and UF?? WTF?

I really dislike the fact that people seem to accept that any idiot coach that comes here gets four years in order to try to totally annihilate our program.

There's zero reason to give a failed coach an extra Year. if he loses five or six games, Everyone knows he's a dead man walking and it just hurts the program in the future that much more.

The real question is do we allow the rookie athletic director who just gave a four loss coach a multimillion-dollar contract extension and who has never made a single head coaching hire himself authority to make the hire. Strickland probably has less of an ability to find a winning coach than Fooley does.

The majority of fans don't want to give Mac a 4th year; however, UF's administration probably will just to save a little money. Unfortunately, history is repeating itself all over again, and I don't know if Foley Jr. even realizes it. What a mess.

Agree. The vols already know what they have with Jones. If losing to UF and failing to win a terrible division(or even finish within a game) were offenses worthy of dismissal, he'd have been fired in 2015, or at least last year. And based on talent alone, he'll likely beat Uk, Vu, Usce Mizz and Umass and SoMiss. So that's 8 wins before you include toss-us against uga and Lsu. In a known rebuild year. He's safe regardless of Saturday.

McElwain is staring down 0-2 with a potentially historic road game the following week. I'm not normally a doom and gloom guy, but this game could very well determine our season. He knows that, and I feel like we end up winning, largely because he has to or else he skips right over the "hotseat" stage and goes directly to "dead man walking".

This is evidenced by how many of his assistants are pulled to other schools being promoted... I can't think of any....

Well, Collins was hired away by Temple. But that was because apparently between 2nd and 3rd down, they'd been just calling in plays and making sure they had the right personnel lined up correctly. No music. No corny lingo. Probably barely readable on the swag meter.

I'm a Gator, and for any purpose other than serving as a punching bag for UF, I wouldn't care if UT vanished like a fart in a whirlwind - good riddance. So yes, of course Mac needs it more in my eyes. We're staring at a strong possibility of a losing season if we can't beat these humps. If that happens, Mac needs to go. He's already made a series of catastrophic mistakes. His history of hiring the wrong people, and taking too long to figure that out, is strike number 1. Running off the only thing that even resembles an SEC QB - just for being stupid, while coddling thieves, dopers and chronic screw-ups is strike number 2. Losing two in a row to a bunch of sheet-wearing, sister-marrying, half-wit peckerwoods like TN will almost certainly set the table for a slow-motion disaster of biblical proportions. If that doesn't constitute strike 3, WTF will?

Sad that the best player for the Gators is Townsend, a punter!!!

Not happening. With that record, lost current and future revenue > than the buyout. It will finally, at long last, dawn on the administration that the ship has sunk.

Florida's new red zone is the forty five yard line. Townsend can sometimes make three from there.

I have to say Mac needs it more, period.

I don't read much about Tennessee but from just looking at the way the sports media talks about both teams, Tenn is trending up and UF is floundering.

At least when the media talks about Tenn, it is spoken as of there is always a chance to win whatever game they're playing. When speaking about UF it's always something like "uf needs this win...".

So Mac needs this win, which in and of itself indicates a terrible state of affairs.
