This is crazy. McMahon lost $100 million on the XFL.

Report: WWE's Vince McMahon to announce new pro football league

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mor...new-pro-football-league/ar-AAvalWf?li=BBnb7Kz

It appears Vince McMahon is ready to get back in to football, as ESPN's Darren Rovell is reporting the WWE CEO will announce Thursday afternoon that he's starting a new professional league.

McMahon previously launched his own professional football league, the XFL, in 2001 but the organization folded after just one season.

BREAKING: @VinceMcMahon to make major sports announcement TODAY at 3 p.m. ET. Follow @AlphaEntLLC, and watch the stream live on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. https://t.co/G7vqTI40Ea

— WWE (@WWE) January 25, 2018

McMahon registered a number of trademarks in December that suggested a potential foray into professional football, and sold $100 million of his WWE stock to fund a new venture.

The XFL lost $70 million in its one season of operation, according to Alfred Konuwa of Forbes.com, so it's doubtful that McMahon would simply reboot the defunct league with no changes.

There is a market for it, and plenty of second teir talent. There was already a league being developed with Ed McCaffey in California with 8 teams. Could end up being a feeder league, as long as they don't decide to go head to head with the NFL (like that decided to do for season 2 of XFL).

If they don’t try to reinvent the game again it might do well if done right. Still think there are enough guys dreaming of a chance to play in a minor league type setting. He should work with the NFL as a development league for cut players, practice squad guys, and others that go undrafted. Try to get some funding from them to as payback for them ripping off all your technical breakthroughs the first time around.

Make it the National Football Development League and it would skyrocket. The Highschool Recruits could get paid while playing the mandatory 3 years removed from HS. If done correctly, college football could really be the one hurt in all of this.

Hopefully he learned from his first time. If done right, no reason a spring league couldn’t have a fighting chance.

He's not going to be able to compete with the nfl. He can compete with college football. Go after the rivals 250. Instead of them going to jawja, scUM and other colleges, offer to pay them a legit salary. Do you really think the rivals top 10 guys would play in college if McMahon's new league payed them 75-200k a year? And after their 3 or so years are up they can bolt to the nfl when they want. McMahon can't compete with NFL salaries. He can with college football.

If he created a developmental league who would foot the bill, the NFL? The only reason why it works in baseball is because MLB helps fund it. If the NFL didn't help fund this also (and why in the world would they, they get players coached up for free in college) where's the revenue coming from? The 200 fans that might actually go watch it?

Theres a massive bust factor from high school-college-pros. Colleges should play their hand: free education at a major university. If you go make middle class money in the xfl and become a bust, youre sure as hell arent getting that scholly money or cake walk through admissions you had earlier if you want to come back. Make them go through it like everyone else or hit the streets. Importance of college isnt as high as it used to be with self learning and experience (google hires tons of kids who learned coding at home) but still the argument is: go make a little money in xfl, could be a bust and your career over. What are you going to do then? Spend all that money you earned to go back to college? You end right back where you were with no money and no college playing experience. I dont see it affecting college at all to be honest

If you paid these kids 50k-100k, and didn't have a 3 year minimum from High School, it could possibly work. Instead of dealing with classes and the NCAA they would get paid and trained in the sport they love... just to set up to be drafted.

Meh. I'd rather just watch "The Replacements" every week.

And "Necessary Roughness", and "Semi Tough", and "North Dallas Forty", and....

The NFL wouldn't need to foot the bill. Think about all the wannabe Owners out there that just can't get in to the current 32 team NFL League. You could have 10 or 14 Major Markets teams with Owners and Sponsors. Think about all the reject coaches (College and NFL) that could get back in the league in some way shape or form. Clearly the Canadian Football League has survived. NFL in London and Mexico are a hit.

And the original 'the Longest Yard"
Maybe even "The Best of Times", "Draft Day", "Any Given Sunday", and "Remember the Titans".

No "Brian's Song", though. There's no crying in football. Unless it's after you win a NC by revenge-boating your archrivals 52-20.

What do you think the actual percentage of college football players are who give 2 shyts about a college education? What do you think the actual percentage of college football players are who will actually do something with their college education? What do you think the actual percentage of college football players are who actually learn something from their college football education?

My guess is it's extremely low, really really low.
