Yogi was before my time as a player, but I have the utmost respect about his accomplishments and even how he remained relevant through all those 90 years. Maybe he's walking out of a cornfield right now ...

RIP Yogi Berra, you were a great catcher and a good manager.
My favorite Yogi-ism on the post-game suggestion that the team go to a certain restaurant:
"Nobody goes there anymore ... it's too crowded."

Never saw him as a player, just know him as a personality. RIP Yogi.

I sat next to a battery mate of his, Ralph Terry, on a plane trip some time ago. We talked about all the characters on that '61 Yanks team. He had some fond memories of Yogi and the other guys in that clubhouse.

Isn't Terry the last player to hit .400 B.A. ?

The last man to hit .400 was Teddy Baseball in 1941. You're thinking about BILL Terry. RALPH Terry was the World Series MVP in 1962. He also gave up a famous walk-off series ending home run in Game Seven of the 1960 World Series. I did not bring that up to him.

That was the year Maris broke Ruth's home run record with 61 and Mantle added 54. They were beginning to age, though. By '64, the decline had begun.

Bill Terry was the last National League player to hit .400. Teddy Baseball, Ted Williams, as PS pointed out above, was the last American League player to hit .400. Bill Terry had a car dealership in Jacksonville.

Yeah Bill Terry did it in 1930, Teddy Ballgame did it in 1941. I can't imagine hitting .400 in the bigs, it's absurd.

Sad news about Yogi, but glad he lived a full life.

90% of the game is mental. The other half is in your head.

Two streakers ran out on the field. Yogi was asked if they were male or female. His reply: "I couldn't tell. They were wearing masks."
