Most of the time I’m on board with your thought process, but what in the blue fuk would make a kid think they have a chance to win one in Athens?
What about their track record of Richt/Smart-ing in big games would make a kid think “Hey, you know what? That Beetle Bailey, bangz having fkface up there is THE guy I know can take me to the playoffs and win it all!”
Not that I think Dan’s track record is better, but at least the damned school he’s representing has won something meaningful in the last four decades. What’s UGay’s claim to fame? The Rose Bowl two years ago? That’s it. That’s all they’re selling.

You are thinking the wrong way. Our rivals are Ugaly.
It is Cowbell and Ga Tech we fight for recruits. Ugaly fightd Alabama and Clemson.
We are apparently losing to Cowbell and GaTech right now, but we have a good shotnw Tulane's RB.

Oh. That championship game. Didn't Butters take us there not once, but twice? And didn't you in particular tell us how meaningless that was when you didn't have a chance to win? So now it does mean something? Who knew?

To your first question, nothing. And he knows that. Take out a perfect storm scenario of UF and ut being woefully down with lame duck coaches, a second chance at the team who just blew you out(but now without their RB), a drawing of OU(notoriously great playoff/big game situations) and having a ton of talent that Smart didn't even recruit, and they've never been in a serious discussion for a national title. Smart took over a much better situation, capitalized on the East being what it was, and has a two year head start on Mullen, who inherited a team of McElwain specials. Anyone with an ounce of objectivity, or not purely wanting to stir the pot, would acknowledge that and recognize that the gap is closing, and that uga missed their opportunity while we may have our own in the next few years.
But as for what they're selling, it's simple. They established a brand and have become a fashionable destination. As I posted earlier in this thread, there are visible cracks and they aren't quite as hot as they were. But justlike we were still raking in recruits in years like '12, '13 and even '14, despite being garbage for much of the previous 5 years, it won't happen over night. I bet half the 2021 kids have them in the mix, simply because the perception that it's a great place to be. Where I do I agree with law and others is that we need a win in Jax to officially change that in our favor. It's critical in '20. But the overall trend will continue for a few more years. And this Washington kid will be in the portal by close of '21, the latest.

Except we snatched Braun from them and it looks like the Sam Brown kid was one of their targets and we’re likely gonna end up with him.
Obviously it’s a step in the right direction. Beating them would be the next step, and it pisses me off to no end that it hasn’t already happened the last two years.
Macelshark took us to the Championship game twice, and that didn’t translate to shyt but getting boat raced the third year by Bangz and crew.

Well, kids know theyve been an automatic in the conf title game for all of their highschool football playing days and won a conf title recently. They also know dwags have been fairly regular in the playoff for a few years now and have a title game appearance, and thats about the extent of how far those kids memories go back. Despite them only winning 1 conf crown during that time, a 17 or 18 year old looks and says, well they are right there every year... and with my help we will win. Because that's how most of the blue chippers think.
We hate the dwags so its hard to give them their due, but despite our hate for them and how poor kirby is as a coach, theyve been in the games that matter pretty consistently.
