Wow, tough news. Had a tremendous rise in the business which speaks to his talent. Sad to hear his story stopped there. Always the good ones. Really feel for his family.

Literally, what I was going to say, that he was the best thing to come out of the Sun since Bianchi. Yes, I like Bianchi even for all his faults.

RIP Mr. Achoff, always a great read.

Doyel came well after Bianchi. He’s had a solid career. The print journalism fad faded some time ago. It’s all digital or electronic now.

Well to come home after a not so fun evening now to read this just totally screwed up the nite and the next few days. This not only brutally sad but almost unbelievable. Pneumonia? I mean that seems rare for a person that age. Sure I hear of elderly people passing from pneumonia brought on by other ailments, but a 33 yo? Unless it was some strong version of bacterial pneumonia? Maybe a more knowledgable member can enlighten us? RIP Ed. Way too soon.

Prayers for his family. Stand up guy with integrity as a journalist and that's saying something. Just damn aweful. Wonder if the pneumonia was secondary complication from the flu? Just really young dude to go out like that. Very Sad!

Wish this was a hoax. He was actually a realist when it came to recruiting compared to the " they are getting everybody" generation of young journalists.
Prayers for his family.
Easily the best that came out of that garbage pit the Sun in recent memory. Of course, that's why he wasn't at the Sun.

@ESPNPR: Statement from ESPN: “We are very sorry to have to share the devastating news of the tragic passing of friend and ESPN colleague Edward Aschoff. He died earlier today, his 34th birthday. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, including his fiancée Katy.”

There was a young man in Ocala that died not much more than a week ago from Pneumonia brought upon by vaping, Hope this wasn't the case for Ed.

Just lost my Father in Law a couple of weeks ago but he was 83. Lost my Dad 7 years ago at this time, Hard for families to find peace at this time.

Watching the Hawaii Bowl and saw this come across the crawl. Came straight here to confirm. So damn sad. Way too young.

This is horrible news. Ed was one of the most talented young journalists in the business and his ceiling was unlimited
Everyone that knew him said that he was a wonderful person.

So many terrible people in the world and in a cruel twist we lose such a shining star

I am taking this pretty hard.....

My guess would be bacterial pneumonia. If he got it in a hospital, that’s even worse. Those strains are highly resistant to antibiotics.
