Yes, he could be responsible for the guys, but so could Mullen. Either way I like Billy G and didn’t he pull in some big time receivers for LSU when he was there? Doesn’t mean the game doesn’t need to step up.

I dont think so, likely why the pushed him out so quickly. I do not recall any of his recruits being productive oh, of course I don't recall many wide receivers being productive under the Less Miles offense

I like this direction. Gotta know if an upgrade is feasible before pulling the trigger (exceptions being truly abysmal coaches - see McElwain, James Shark****er). Have no idea if Gonzalez is redeemable as a recruiter, or is a better coach than those listed above.

Any former Gator greats showing promise?

It’s probably both. My Dad was a natural, but spent a lot of time honing his skills. I think a good seller has a God-given ability to read the room and think on the fly. From there, training and experience helps focus the message for impact. Sales is a just a special form of credible storytelling. Every business has an unwritten language for this that can be learned.

So I think someone with even just slightly above average intuition can learn to sell well. Urban was notably a psychology major. Never met him, but he doesn’t strike me as being overly charismatic. Probably learned to sell using psychology, but was building upon a reasonable amount of innate social intelligence.

I met Urban. He was capable of mind control. I’m pretty sure he took my soul. I have nightmares to this day.

Of course the dude has to be qualified. I agree being a former player isn’t enough, but it can add value (program branding, knows recruiting in FL...). Gonzalez is an accomplished coach, but if rumors are true, he doesn’t seem to give a crap about recruiting lately. His recent lack of success on the trail is baffling given all the greats he’s coached (8 or so individuals named as All-SEC WRs - including some generational players like Harvin and Beckham). How does that guy not bring in fresh 5* talent every year?

Here’s two Gator greats I’d like Dan to consider if he cans Billy, in no particular order. 1) Jemalle Cornelius. A Captain of the 2006 BCS Championship team as a WR and special teams player, and current head coach of Fort Meade HS. Dude is a natural leader and would be great at it if he wanted to do it.

2) Dallas Baker. Another Gator BCS champ (and Super Bowl ring wearer). Current WR coach at Marshall since 2017. Maybe ready for an SEC gig?

Both know Dan’s O, and responded well to Meyer’s recruiting style. Maybe they can bring it.

I spent a little over 12 years in sales after leaving the Culinary field....never was a natural and it only came natural when I matched personalities with a client....it didn't help that I truly hate about 95% of the Worlds population and don't mind telling you if I don't like you .

One thing that I did learn though was that all "Sales Trainers" were usually guys that couldn't cut it on in sales but ended up in that position because they had a degree and knew who to blow....
This post right here paints a pretty good picture of why I like concrete

He is basically their new Juwaun Seider, Doc Hollyday's new protege recruiter.

Getting Doc back in a behind the scenes role would be nice too if he some day moves on.

Dallas Baker for sure - he's now a proven CFB coach (and everything that goes along w/ it, i.e. experience in recruiting). I'd take on Cornelius as an analyst/quality control, but not on-field (this is UF, we shouldn't be hiring HS coaches to on-field positions).

The fact that these guys "know" Mullen's system - to me - is not an advantage. I would prefer he brings in a more season'd WR coach to help design more modern SO/RPO plays. One of Mullen's biggest mistakes since taking the UF job was bringing in too many of "his" coaches. Like Meyer did at Ohio State (where he hired not a single coach he had coached with), Mullen should spread his wings and bring in some new concepts.

He took Zach Smith and Drayton with him, though likely bc they couldn't land a coordinator job anywhere like most of the other staff.

Urban didn't tolerate poor performing staff however. I wish we had some of that right now.

Regarding the anti-Knox/English/Gonzo discussion, I’ve felt all along like only Gonzo is worth keeping. But now I’m on the fence with him. The disparity in recruiting results are tied to specific positions and wide receiver has been a glaring deficiency except for transfers and an occasional outlier (Cope). I wonder what the Grimes and Jefferson backstories are? If Gonzalez recruited them, then maybe he’s not so bad and can be improved with staff help.

Mullen has been a pleasant surprise and has made Florida football much more fun to watch than the previous 10 years. I hope he takes the next step in recruiting.

The voice of reason on Christmas day - greetings and felicitations!

Forgot about Drayton (and Smith was an analyst at UF), but point taken. Zach Smith, for as crazy as he is, could recruit. Drayton was solid too.

I'd like to see Mullen hire a WR coach from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or any number of programs that throw the ball a ton. Hiring re-treads or guys who "know" your system is lazy, to put it mildly. But I'd trade Dallas Baker for Gonzalez today!

Hey, knock me for saying it, but technically that's what it is. I hope we improve the situation, personally.
