Are there any fine watch enthusiasts out there besides me?

I came into possession of a Breitling Avenger Seawolf a while back. I recently sent it out to be cleaned and reconditioned and I had a local jeweler size it to my wrist. Well.....

A whole new world has been opened to me! I want to quit my job and become a collector! I am planning additions to my "collection" of luxury, mechanical watches (does one count as a "collection"?) Learning about watch movements, calibres, complications, makes and models has been a blast. Just the other night, I couldn't find anything to watch on the telly. So, sitting in my comfy chair, I mindlessly picked up my phone and somehow managed to look at luxury watch videos, reviews and articles for over 3 hours!

I'm pretty sure my next major acquisition, when I can afford it, will be an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M. But I am considering some less expensive models in the interim, among them them a few Sinn models (German, not Swiss), Hamilton, Oris and Zenith. Down the road, a Rolex - which sadly has become something of a cliche even though they make phenomenal time pieces, IWC and Blancpain will get looooong looks. I seem to gravitate to diver models, but some pilot and even racer models appeal to me.

So what say you? Are there any other luxury watch enthusiasts on the board?

Look into getting a Patek Phillipe Calatrava - the quintessential gentleman's watch. It's a work of art as well as a beautiful timepiece.

Awesome - those are beautiful watches - works of art as you say. Lots of options - white gold, rose gold, yellow, even platinum.

Ol' GR8 2B is earning at a whole 'nother level than Gatorbreath....

Any others that strike your fancy? And do keep me posted on the Patek Philippe. Post snaps when you get it.

I bought a knockoff in NYC Chinatown. Beautiful. Self-winding. Window on the bottom so you could see the inner workings. Smooth sweep second hand. Oh, and a little less than the quarter million or so dollars they charge for the real thing.

I'm not the douchebag who wears fake rolexes and such. I just needed a watch and happened to be up there on vacay. I liked the look and the fact that it was self-winding. Fit well on my wrist. I never heard of Patek Philippe. I didn't even know it was a knockoff. I just thought it was a nice watch. Not ostentatious like the fake rolexes, movados, breitlings, etc. It looked elegant. Might have paid around $50 or $80 for it.

One of my buddies saw it and lost his mind. He told me what a Patek was and how much they really cost. After that, I felt a little self-conscious about it.

My biggest problem with it was that I had to wear it daily for it to self-wind. If I didn't wear it for a weekend, I had to reset it .

This is what it looked like:

On a serious note, if you are really interested, I can introduce you to this South African friend in Boca. I wouldn’t buy from anyone else, and he can find just about ANYTHING you are interested in. Here’s his page of Avengers.

Useless post without pics! Any discussion of watches needs to be accompanied by pictures or video. I have one watch, a MIDO Commander II with a grey dial. MIDO is a lower end Swiss company, I got the watch for $700 online, I think it retails for $1200, so very cheap when you are talking automatic watches. I liked the way it looks though and it was a good price for a COSC certified chronometer.

Is that your watch, or a snap you downloaded from the web?

Because if that's yours, I am jealous. The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M will be the next big purchase - once I get a project off the ground and making money - hopefully by the end of Q1 next year.

That’s my watch and my white arm. It’s a 150m but 10 years old. I’m looking forward to passing it down to my boy in another 10 years.

The YouTube reviews in foreign languages are always the most helpful.

That is a beautiful watch with nice specs. Very sleek. But no Seamaster. NV has you beat!

Here is my "collection", such as it is:

Breitling Avenger Seawolf Titanium Yellow

Seiko Sportura Solar Chronograph Black Dial Stainless Steel

G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400

I find myself weakening and perhaps planning a relatively inexpensive addition before the Seamaster. I am hoping I come to my senses, because I really should NOT be spending any money.

They are, in no particular order:

Fantastic. That is a gorgeous and timeless timepiece. Could be my favorite. He'll likely pass it along to his son someday. That's part of what these things are all about.

sometimes the foreign reviews are all you can find and this video showcased the watch better than a flat picture. And believe me, I know it aint no seamaster, I called it low end Swiss and cheap for a reason ;)

and I love Oris and Sinn as well, but as fine as those brands are, if you’re wanting an Omega then save up for an Omega.

I gave my college age son my first automatic, a Seiko Alpinist with a green dial. Its kind of a cult classic amongst Seiko fans, but I found the movement to be innacurate enough that it led me to buy the chronometer grade MIDO.

That Seiko with the green dial is a beautiful piece. It is odd that it didn't keep time well enough. Seikos are typically very highly regarded - including their mechanical watches. But still, beautiful.

Do you plan any more acquisitions?

I think the Seiko must have become magnetized somehow as it was way off, like by 2 minutes per day. Its supposed to be something like +/- 20s per day at worst, the 6R15 movement a staple in their midrange mechanical lineups. Probably an easy fix By a watch repair guy if i could find one local that I still need to take care of.

As for future acquisitions, nothing on the immediate horizon but I have a few that I have my eye on. I too love the Omega Seamaster, my favorite Rolex is the Polar White Explorer II, and I love some Zenith too, in particular the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster.

That Rolex is beautiful. I've looked at some Zenith models, too, and like the brand.

As of this moment, while fantasizing, the Rolex I'd buy is the GMT-Master II "Pepsi":

But this will be after the Omega Seamaster.

Which will be after the Oris Aquis Titanium Date.

23418_0173377307153-0782415PEB_horizontale.png

Which will be after the Sinn U1 B on Bracelet (fully tegimented) - ordered yesterday and should be here Thursday.

Gatorbreath needs to get to earning to get all these in the collection!

On a related matter, does anyone want to buy some motorcycles??? :lol2:
