Yes, end-of-month/year or seasonal factory incentives don't factor in for pre-owned, but I can guarantee you that each pre-owned department is driving toward month-end and in December, year-end sales goals and objectives. They are far likely to be more flexible as the month and year winds down to make their sales numbers.

Also, most sales get paid their twice a month and their commission gets very important on the 31st and 15th (ish).

Another night of negotiating, another night of walking away. To get to the point, Dealerships aren't negotiating much, if any, on the asking price. The Asking price on the car I drove tonight dropped $1k from yesterday. They said they have a "One Price Guarantee" and that it's not negotiable. It's the same I've heard from 3 other dealers on their used cars and they seem to hold strong.

I walked again tonight. They said they might be able to do more with my trade in but that only raised $500. I wrote out an offer on paper, line item, and told them to figure out where to cut, and I got nothing so I walked.

I can tell you, the experience of buying a used car has changed drastically. Too much competition on the internet. everything is fixed price now. It's a new ball game.

I really think as @78 said, there's no incentive to sell a used car by EOM or EOY. It's all about the big boys of new vehicle.

On used vehicles they'd rather sell it to an individual than send it to auction, so it depends on how long that particular vehicle has been on the lot, but that isn't contingent on EOM or EOY.

Sounds like you're looking at expensive used vehicles which is why I mentioned buying new instead....Yeah I know they depreciate for the first few years but you plan on keeping it for more than 5 years anyway? You also said you were a payment buyer?(lower rates) Just don't get any extra BS like extended warranty, GAP, or other crap, put 20% down plus your trade and keep the terms under 60 month's.....Oh and unless you have a desirable trade like in MJM's case or can find a new vehicle which has been on someone's floor plan too long don't expect HUGE discounts with new either....whatever discount the factory gives the dealer(rebate) is the discount you'll be offered on new as well.

I tried explaining this to you earlier about the internet and regional dealer agreements having changed the game in car sales. In fact I worked for the company that all makes now model their pricing after(Tracker Marine)for 7 years....welcome to the age of catalog car buying....

If you want to feel a little better about not getting such a huge discount then feel my pain when trying to buy a new GT500....10-40k ADM or bust.

I got nothing. After spending more and more time researching what we want, we also became very particular with the features it would have, i.e. 2nd row captain seats. Nothing in our area so it would mean bringing in a vehicle from another state.

Then, we got to thinking we were over buying at this time and now I'm researching Jeeps.

Those big GM SUVs get spendy very quickly. And unlike GM cars, they can hold their value in today's SUV-mad marketplace.

It is good you're broadening your search, taking your time and using your head and not your heart or balls to buy your next rig.

Jeep Grand Cherokees can be very nice. I have an Overland with the smaller Hemi and the air ride suspension. It is a very sweet ride. The Hemi is a thirsty mill. She is powerful and smooth, but not quick.

Overall, I am very happy with her. I've had some niggling issues you read about on the forums (what the hell were the engineers thinking with those halogens and sockets?), and so many recall repairs I've lost count. In fact, I received a letter just last week from FCA telling me another recall is going to happen soon, so I should be on the lookout for the next letter. A bit odd - receiving a letter before the actual recall letter. But the recalls don't cost me anything and the dealership provides loaners. I worry about Jeep quality as she ages, but so far, I can't really complain. I do baby my cars and bikes and they are all garaged. It looks as if the air suspension might have a leak, so my tune may change quickly. I've read those repairs can be expensive.

The current JGCs were last redone in 2011 and still feature much of Daimler's touch. Apparently, the Italians will redesign and rebuild the JGCs for 2021 and are planning on adding a third row (as an option, I think). As much as I hate to impugn my ethnicity, Italians are not known for quality in their manufacturing. Sure, Ferraris, Ducatis and Moto Guzzis are nice to look at, but they are all very finicky. And they represent quality Italian design. As far as I know - which is not far, admittedly - all Fiats are junk and they are busy junkifying the entire Jeep line (which wasn't really known for quality in the first place - at least in recent years). The venerable JGC is next. An aside: the stop/start tech in some of the loaners I've driven is dreadful. The first time they put me out in one, I actually turned right around and went back because I thought something was wrong with it. The service manager laughed and told me what it was. So, be aware.

So, grab one that still has some German quality in her....

Awesome. They are scads of fun. In high school, one of my best friends had a CJ-6 or 7 - I don't remember exactly. It was a lot of fun. I can recall we used the glove box near the shifter as a cooler. We'd fill it with ice and Busch cans. This was prior to the advent of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or whatever they were called...

I've always wanted one. Taking the doors off, putting the windshield down... I'm not sure it could be my daily driver, though, which why I've never pulled the trigger.
