Excellent finish. Did you replace the switch? An effective and really inexpensive degreaser you may want to experiment with is Awesome Orange sold at Dollar Tree. I've used it to clean miniblinds, grease off my pickup, and cleaning knotty pine cabinets and oak floors prior to recoating with poly.

Switch worked fine....no reason to replace it. I could have replaced the cord but I like to try and keep things original if possible.

You did an excellent job re-creating the scale face and logos. I also like how you test your projects to ensure they work correctly.

That's awesome... It's therapeutic just watching. Building my models is like meditation/therapy for me.

I know it's all artistic license, and I like that you left the screw on top bare metal, but is there any reason you didn't powder coat the screw heads on the sides other than personal choice? When you were disassembling, I thought about whether or not you would and thought it would look good either way.

Hell he left one out in the back.

I personally think mirror-finish screw heads normally look better than body color. I like the contrast and pop - they give a little color to the back of the scale. However, it's a personal preference.

But it's a good observation - they were painted body-color from the factory.

Been putting a lot of hours into this sucker, which I got for $70 off of Craigslist. It's a early-60's Dole Director soda machine, and it weighs over 200 pounds. I've torn all the aesthetic stuff off the outside and am just working on finding out if all the internals are working, cleaning, changing o-rings, stuff like that. It's filthy and was heavily used somewhere.

I'm proud to announce the the 60-year old sealed refrigeration system still works perfectly. I've just ordered a C02 bottle and I'm going to hook the sucker up and see if the carbonator still works. Then I'll start on the outside of the unit, bringing the sides back to life and brightening the yellowed top plastic cover. It has interchangeable advertising displays on both sides that light up. It's going to be incredible when it's done.

It will be a man-cave item that I plan to use for years (whenever I actually get a man cave). I'm thinking of having the Gatorchatter script as the display on the front of the machine above the spigots.

It's amazing what this stuff will do for yellowed plastic:

Wow that is an amazing transformation. How do you find products like this and the rust remover you use? I think you should send a bottle to Butters he could use some.
