Maybe if I win the lottery. Of, course I don't tend to buy tickets so.........
We buy scratch offs once per year... for Christmas stocking stuffers. Our "take" in winnings this year (never mind the cost out of pocket!) was $29, so I gave the cashier $1 and rolled it into 10 Mega-millions tickets, but I'm guessing that tonight is NOT the night! ;)

Knowing your willingness to buy a poor public servant a beer, I hope you win.

I wear this watch by a French company called MAT Watches. Stands for Mer Air Terre..... which of course means sea air land. They are hand made, mechanical drive timepieces with a price point in the middle for a quality unit you can wear all day.

They specialize in custom runs and the Naval Aviator version I wear was designed by a good friend of mine. They have made runs for all kinds of special forces such as French Foreign Legion, US Secret Service, several first responder outfits worldwide, and even an Ed Force One version for Iron Maiden.

Here’s a pic at dinner in Paris with the owner Fabrice (right), my buddy who designed the Naval version (second from left), and Bruce Dickinson (second from right), who detests cowbell IRL. Fabrice is kind enough to partly sponsor my race car in Baja.

That's cool. I love the mandatory French white flags of surrender at 3 and 9. :D

That is a beautiful watch - nice, clean dial and I like the blue dial with the blue strap. I do like a date complication on my watches, though.

I have to say, just when I think I may have heard of, at least in passing, all of the watch makers out there, especially the mechanical ones, I discover more. I mean, with the advent of hyper-accurate quartz timepieces, longer life batteries and now solar-powered quartz movements that theoretically could run forever, I'd think the market for mechanical watches, especially expensive ones, would be very limited. Not so.

Thanks for posting this. I'd never heard of these guys before. Their reference # AG7 XL LT4 might just be one of my next buys. I like the relative ruggedness of it, the power reserve is slightly better than my Breitling and Sinn and they provide 3 straps. And you can't argue with the ETA movement.

Can you get me deal???

Damn I really like this one

The Seamaster is my current favorite. I can argue the black dial, or the white.

They can be bought brand new on the gray market significantly below MSRP. It makes grabbing one very tempting. They are much less expensive than the Submariner and many YouTube "horologists" argue the specs of the Omegas are now better. The downside of buying them that way is missing out on Omega's 5 year warranty.

But, admittedly, they are not Rolexs, if that matters to you......

It doesnt matter to me. Omega is nothing to sneeze at IMO. I dont mind going the grey market route either, depending on the amount of savings of course

Hamilton is starting to appeal to me. It seems as if they offer a lot for the money - Swiss; modified ETA movements, sapphire crystals, a fair degree of ruggedness built in and many references offer up to 80 hours of power reserve. Plus, you'd have to work really hard to spend a grand on one, especially on the gray market. They'd make a good, mechanical beater watch.

Finalists in the clubhouse, at least until my mood changes:

Khaki Field Day Date Auto (about $620 gray market): Khaki Field - Day Date Auto | Hamilton watch

Khaki Navy Scuba Auto ( $439 gray market): Khaki Navy - Khaki Scuba Auto | Hamilton watch

Are there any fine watch enthusiasts out there besides me?

Sorry, weak 4553d joke to hide my bitter jealousy.

= = = = =

Personally, I loved my Casio with a calculator back in 1980, but by the time I finally got a cell phone (early '00s?) I quit wearing a watch. I've never been one for any kind of fashion statement, much more about practicality. With that, I'm carrying the phone 24/7 anyway which makes a breakable wrist weight more liability than useful.

Ok guys, a question. I'm turning 50 soon, the wife suggested I upgrade my Rolex. I have two, a Platinum Yachtmaster and a steel Explorer 2. I walked into an AD today, he had a two tone Daytona with a black face at list. He's holding that for me and I'm gonna bring in my two watches. Any idea what will happen with a trade? Never done something like this before.
