Dan’s base level for the program at year 2 is better than I expected. Currently at top 10 or bust. An entertaining rebuild so far. Adding victory over UGA is the next essential step. Must win in Jax in 2020.

Recruiting is improving some, but not quite enough to put us intrinsically into a top 4 base level. We lack the small number of top-end athletes every championship caliber team seems to have.

It is essential one of them is your QB. Others are also needed. Guys like Jamar Chase, Ettienne, Spikes, Harvin just make those few extra plays that lessor athletes cannot. Those players tip the scale in big games. Opponents have to scheme around them. I don’t see anyone on Florida’s roster at that level, yet. Hoping Wingo is one. Need just 1 to 3 on each side of the ball, plus a solid base of 4 stars across the board. We have the base, need to add the boost.
I agree with your comments, but thought I would point out that Etienne was ranked by Rivals as a 3-star coming out of high school. 24/7 had him ranked as a 4-star.

Good point. Swinneys staff found a good one! I think scouting for fit is key. Star ratings trigger some folks, but it’s just a probability rating with exceptions at both ends. You gotta have a handful of 5 stars at any given time though because not all of them work. Most great teams also have a diamond in the rough or two that out-perform their recruiting rating.

Great coaches get the most of their top end talent, not just at individual performance, but within the team concept. I think Mullen has better potential at that than Smart. So, we don’t necessarily have to match Georgia’s recruiting in some kind of 5-star dick check, but there is a critical mass of 5-star performers required.

OU got demolished by LSU. Comparing our performance against LSU at BR with their performance on a neutral site and you can see why they are ranked below us.

That being said, I don't care for moral victories. We have not even won our division, let alone our conference. No body cares where we rank in the AP poll.

Oregon @ 5?

W.T.F?

Agreed.

I'm guessing some voters didn't want 3 SEC teams and 0 PAC 12 teams in the top 5 so they jumped Oregon over us for no damn good reason.

We didn't win an SEC or national title...we didn't even win the SEC East...but there is some cachet in claiming a "top 5" national finish and we don't get it because of some PAC 12 butthurt.

Honestly, I don't even know if we beat Oregon on a neutral field, but we damn sure earned a higher final ranking than the Ducks.

Thought the same thing.

We lost to LSU and Jawja
They lost to ASU and Auburn
We beat Auburn and had a tougher schedule
Sagarin has us @ 10.#34 SOS. Oregon is #6 #29 SOS. We're behind Bama, OU, PSU,and Wisconsin. Where we fell off was O wins vs top 10 and 1 vs top 30. The rest at worst had 3 top 30 wins. Oregon had 4. That could explain why they're ahead according to some

Fvvk the pac 12 and their inflated rankings. If we had Oregon's schedule we'd be in the playoffs.
