Nothing lateral about getting a huge bump in pay. For a guy who has 1 year experience as HC in P5 school and can double his pay, how do you say no? One never knows when the phone stops ringing. Have to strike when iron is hot. See Taggert. Willie. You can be completely unwanted and still ride off into the sunset with a zillion bux.

Report: Michigan State to hire Mel Tucker as head coach

After one season at Colorado and recruiting all those kids to Boulder he jumps for “greener” pastures in Michigan...lateral move? And what about those kids that signed up to play for him?
Coaches these days are nothing but a bunch of hired guns. Just wave money
under their noses and see how fast they bolt. The head guys at aTm, Penn state, Nebraska, etc,
couldn't care less about the guys they leave behind. The only care about that next notch in their belts.
But then again, can you really blame them? Look how short of a leash these coaches are on now days.
Those guys at FSU and Ole Miss get what, less than 2 years before they are shown the door.

He got a bump in pay. But, if he wants to win to build his resume for an elite job, he should’ve passed. Mich. St. is a mess while playing in a deep conference.

He probably doubled his salary to leave Colorado. Yes, in all reality it's probably a lateral type move. This is more than likely about the money than the job, or his chance at an elite job. He was an assistant there w/ Saban, so he knows the school and conference. As long as he doesn't pull a Taggert, he likely can stay there 10+ years like Dantonio, or move on to a better job. With his B10, P12, and SEC ties he'd be a good candidate for any of those conferences...plus he was an interim coach for the Jaguars, so he could land an NFL gig.

I get that but it’s hard for a kid to know all this especially if he was all in because of Mel Tucker...it’s just sad to see

Yawn. No one saw this coming - yourself included. The discussion was based on whether MT’s assistants would be around because we both agreed MT was likely to be here. Also, discussion included playing immediately vs being buried and playing for Knox. Still think it was smart.

Huge risk he’s taking. No telling if sanctions are coming and MSU has been on the decline. MSU probably got desperate and offered a huge deal to an unproven guy who boasts a 5-7 record with a questionable offense.

I'm not the recruiting coordinator. All of the sites that cover the team (and speak to these staffers regularly) said we passed on him.

But now we’re getting Zach Evans. He hasn’t visited, but he will and he’ll fall in love with us. Mullen hasn’t vetted him completely but he will. We’re still gettin’ errybody!

With Brewster on staff it’s not a longshot

Meh. Responding to you is hardly sensitivity. That would be more like how triggered you get anytime someone says Billy G is a good coach.
