I bought a car.

2002 Audi TT Quattro. 225 HP, 6-speed. 92K miles. Needs a decent amount of TLC (interior is a beat beat up) but runs great. Had never driven one before, and the car had tons of room for my 6'3" frame. It will be fun cleaning it up and fixing a few things. It's purchased but not in my possession yet - I'll get it tomorrow and then I'll provide pictures.

At any rate, how can you go wrong for a measly $2,900?

Welcome to the world of German auto parts prices.

As an update, the interior of the car is pretty much gutted as I clean every corner of this thing. It needs it.

The paint was dead from sitting in the sun. After rubbing compound, polish, swirl remover, and glaze, it looks one hell of a lot better. Unfortunately my back is shot.

One day at a time. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

It's not a roadster? That's amazing, because the top goes down when I hit a button. It looks like this:

Congrats on the find, Ox. Nice car and should be a fun project.

Also, I forget how hilly St Lucie can be in certain areas.

Yeah you better gut the interior and start over, you know anyone who would drive a car like that is definitely into weird gay sex stuff.

My FIL has done upholstery work for over 50 years and does a lot of hot rods. People come from all over the state to see him. Worth the drive to NC to get someone to do it. I know there are others out there, but you won't find anyone any more persnickety than him when it comes to covering seats, carpet, headliners, etc. I worked with him a about 8 months after college and saw first hand what quality versus **** looks like.

Okay, finally some pics after all the work was done. Gutting and cleaning of the interior, mind-numbing buffing and waxing of the exterior, all new brake rotors and pads, new valve cover gasket, bunch of rotted hoses replaced, new oil cooler, power steering pump, serpentine belt, spark plugs, oil cooler, oil change, coolant flush, and gorgeous new wheels which I absolutely love. I also installed a boost gauge, blacked out the rear emblems, and sprayed the faded front grilles satin black.

Still have a little more work to do, but the car runs great. I'll be powder coating that fuel door satin black. The wet okole seat covers are there (came with the car) because the leather seats are shredded.

I've got a grand total of 5K into it, including the purchase price ($2,900).

It's a lot of fun for 5K, which was what I was looking for.

Do you like it more or less than Miata?

I think Audis are great values.

They are different cars. The Miata is more go cart, no doubt - around 2200 pounds. This little car has a lot more power but it's heavy - over 3400 pounds and AWD. The fun part is the turbo, which winds up and makes terrific sounds.
