There's a few other rule change threads, but this is the proposed changes for the 2020 season - this will get voted on in mid-April:

The full list of recommended rule changes:
  • Implementing a two-minute time limit for officials to make decisions using instant replay (to speed up the game)
  • Allowing players ejected for targeting and disqualified from the game to remain on the sidelines with their teammates (instead of being immediately banished to the locker room, alone)
  • Starting game officials’ jurisdiction at 90 minutes before kickoff, instead of the current 60 minutes. That will come with a requirement that a coach has to be on the field during pregame warmups whenever players are present (to avoid pregame kerfuffles)
  • Capping the amount of duplicate jersey numbers on a roster at two to lessen confusion for referees and others
  • Because of that restriction as well as the popularity of single-digit jersey numbers, adding No. 0 as a legal jersey number

Thanx for posting but along what @OllieGator and Butter the Dog said, it seems more like administrative issues and not rule changes. How about letting a defensive back play defense instead of getting called for pass interference on almost every pass play? Egregious, yes. But many are ridiculous. also each time a receiver screams for a flag for PI and it isn't called, that receiver is penalized 15 yards for acting like a jackazz. Let the kids play, take away the penalities where a D lineman might graze a QB's helmet when he reaches up to block an attempted pass. Those are rules that should be addressed. This administrative issues mean nothing

My proposed rule changes:
  • Commercials limited to 3 minutes, only allowed after PATs, FG's and punts. No commercials in the 4th qtr.
  • 15 yard celebration penalty: celebrating 1st downs when your team is losing by two scores; DBs celebrating uncatchable incomplete passes.
  • Any ref that ejects a player for targeting must also sit out the next game.

I really like the 3rd one. Let's put that one forward.

1) I’m ok with the time window. But honestly, if we’re going to stop the game for review, the objective should be to get it right. If differing by angles and close calls make some a little longer, so be it. Sounds good in theory until a rushed decision costs someone.

2) About time. Imo, one of the worst and most severe punishments for what is often an innocent, somewhat unavoidable play. Took 8 years but still happy to see it.

3) Mehh. Don’t care.

4) Prime example of the nonsense that is focused on, while changes like #2 above wait in line. Yes, NCAA, you’ve solved all our problems once again.

5) See #4. If more than 35 seconds were spent debating the introduction of this rule change, everyone in the room should be arrested.

If we’re adding our own, I’d change what I consider the “Vosean Joseph” rule. The two Unsportsmanlike and you’re out idea is a good. But the order should have to be considered as well. No kid sitting on the bench talking to his coach about adjustments should be disqualified and sent to the locker room because he had a penalty earlier and now the entire team is assessed a foul.

I would ban duplicate jersey numbers altogether.

I would also ban the addition of first initials or partial names to distinguish players with the same last name. THEY ARE WEARING DIFFERENT NUMBERS!

When Alabama had Shaun Alexander in the 90s and his jersey read “SAU ALEXANDER”, I thought I was going to lose it. To this day it infuriates me.

what infuriated me was that we were looking at the back of his jersey.

He damn near single-handedly beat us twice in one season.

Loved Bennie Alexander, but that jump offsides in the extra point was a killer. Had a pick-6 earlier, so it probably averages out. But that was gut wrenching.

‘99 sucked all around. Probably Spurrier’s worst overall season. Take away Alex Brown/ut and It’s quite forgettable.

98 was worse to me. probably one of our most talented teams. I really didn't expect 99 to do much.

Then do it like the NFL. Coaches challenge and only review scoring plays. Challenges on every single catch, fumble, knee down, etc...that's what makes it so slow

Was it Freddie Millons that we refused to cover AT ALL in both of those games?

And speaking of horrible memories, why did Darrell Jackson try to field that punt? If he doesn’t, we not only win that game but there would not have been a rematch. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. I was screaming “No! Run away from it!” at the top of my lungs.

I like 0 as a legal number, but I also like 00 as a legal number.

Jim Otto approves (even though he was a damn dirty 'Cane).

I’m in favor of not having names on the jersey at all.

Edit: thinking of PROTHRO, I dont remember Millons doing much.

We covered him (PROTHRO)... with Kyle Jackson. Bc we had a fvkked up position coach who wanted to play a kid bc he liked him, instead of playing the better players.

Keep in mind Reggie Nelson and later Major Wright were on the bench.

That btw is championship recruiting. Sometimes even a 5 star like Jackson flops, so you cant just fill the rest of the roster w leftovers.
