Tom Hanks in another WWII epic, and it looks pretty badass: "Greyhound."

About a naval officer leading his first convoy across the German sub-infested Atlantic in 1942. Comes out on June 12th. Here's a nice long trailer:

I'm sold! I hope it's in IMAX.

My grandfather was Merchant Marines. Navy folks used to sail with them due to the threat of German subs. They would mount anti sub cannons on the cargo ships and cover them with wooden boxes. Sub would see the "unarmed" merchant ship and would come up for a more accurate shot and the Navy boys would blast the hell out of it.

Good times.

@Bushmaster Cool story

Tom Hanks is a tremendous actor. I can't remember him ever being in a movie I didn't really enjoy. I try not to think of his politics.

The German response to that was often less than pleasant. If your looking for an in-depth (pun intended) history of the battle of the N. Atlantic, check out Clay Blair’s two volume work “Hitler’s U-boat War.” Fair warning, it’s lengthy.

All of Blair's work is in depth, and awesome. I've read Silent Victory about the sub war in the Pacific, and The Forgotten War about Korea. He's really good.

Haha so true. Pilot of the plane? Crashes into the ocean. Passenger on the plane? Same result. Trying to get on the plane? Stuck in the airport for 9 months. Captain of a freighter? Hijacked by pirates. Astronaut in a moon rocket? Houston, we have a problem. Dude should stay home. Did I miss any?

Were they on their way to the beaches? Is that what the movie’s about?

Just read that they are not waiting for theaters to re-open and are sending this one straight to streaming in July, on Apple TV.

Tom Hanks is reportedly pissed as hell about it and wanted the movie to be seen on the big screen. I'm disappointed too because I don't &%$# with Apple so won't be seeing it anytime soon.
