Yes, somewhat. I know this place is all about football, not so much science. But, this is different than the flu, a better analogy would be the measles or rubella. With COVID-19 once infected and recover you appear to have have (lifelong?) immunity. This is not the case with the seasonal flu. Also, it is 40 times more deadly than the flu, that is noteworthy. Early indications are a few people have suffered kidney and brain issues after infection, this is not the case with the flu. But this is early, not fully established. You right in that it will eventually become endemic like the seasonal flu. But this will just be among the population that does not have the antibodies. This pandemic virus will spread worldwide until at least 60% to 70% of the population have antibodies (either through infection or vaccine). According to The W.H.O. we are 4-5 years away. I assume 3 based upon 18 months to get the vaccine and 18 more to manufacture, send through the supply chain, and distribute and vaccinate people. Eat right, exercise, and help other people where you can. My coping mechanism is the Stockdale Paradox, be optimistic and realistic at the same time. Football seems minor, but we will get through this and football will return.
GTFO of here with this garbage propaganda. If you insist in hiding out in your basement for the coming years, go stink up the UGA boards when you're bored, not here.

I too am hearing that this will be around for a while. For instance, I’ve read reports that the 2nd wave could come as soon as the 26th of this month. And one model suggests that the 4th wave could be 11 times worse(though to be fair, that one had all the ear marks of being a fake). In any event, I was born in 1980, a looong time ago, and I’ve never seen anything like this.

Good Lord Sec. I am all for caution. I'm not even sure about opening the season. But you sure have piled on with a bunch of facts that aren't facts. You're as bad as Law only in the other corner. You've been reading to many media "experts" who don't know how the hell to interpret any real research.

Give him a few for the reply. I imagine the internet can be pretty spotty, inside a large duct taped cardboard box...inside a room...within a garage.

Chances are this virus will mutate like all the other coronaviruses and there will not be lifelong immunity. If a safe vaccine can be manufactured (big if) it will probably be no more effective than the flu vaccine (30-40%). It is not even close to 40 times more deadly than the flu unless your Governor's name starts with a C and ends with an O. Among the 45,000 to 60,000 people who die annually from the flu you can be sure many had kidney and brain damage. Those complications are commonly seen with sepsis and the hypoxia associated with pneumonia. Otherwise, great post.

How is this a great post. First as you said 40 times more deadly is ridiculous. Best estimates, and it's still a guess, is that it's perhaps 6 times more deadly. Second, much to my surprise and in spite of the initial protestations that "that's not the way we do it" the FDA has gotten off their collective asses and are fast tracking the vaccine process. Odds are we'll either develop an effective vaccine and we'll get one and in a much shorter time frame than WHO is projecting or we won't get one at all. if we find something that's effective it's not going to be 36 months or 4 to five years. Not in this country even considering how screwed up the health care system is. It will be much sooner. Sure there's the big if. We may never find anything that's effective.

Finally, it is risky to compare effectiveness of a well targeted COVID vaccine to a flu vaccine which while well targeted is dealing with a different virus entirely. I'm not going to argue much on that point because I'm not qualified to do so. But I do think the comparison is no more than a fuzzy guess.

Just open it up and sell tickets. You want to go then go. Don’t want to go then don’t. This whole thing is a crock of ****.

I can think of ten reasons why it's not that simple. It's not out of the question, but it's not that simple.
