RIP Onyx. 05/25/07 - 05/12/20
One damn fine dog.

One of the last photos I took about a month ago.

Sorry for your loss, GBM. It's always a tough decision and certainly hard to deal with. I'm sure Onyx is over the rainbow bridge running freely.

Our dog Napoleon died a week ago at age 15. In middle of night he woke us up with difficulty breathing. We took him to vet who said that he has CHF, Kidney failure, and unlikely future. Tough decision to let him go.
He was a loving sweet papillon.
He is in doggie heaven with his sister Juliette (also a papillon) who died two years ago.
Sorry for your lose. 15 years is quite a life; good for him.

Sorry for your loss as well QC. Being put in a situation like that in the middle of the night and to make that decision is aweful.

2343.jpeg 23993.jpeg IMG_20170205_181045.jpg Yesterday afternoon, our oldest girl died (16 years old) in our backyard. She had already been struggling so we only let her out for 10 minutes at a time, but she laid down in her favorite spot to get sun, and stopped breathing.

First I would like to offer my condolences to those of you who recently lost a pet. It sucks and you guys are in my heart right now especially.

Today we said goodby to our beagle Cheerio. We agreed to foster him when he was around 1 years old and him and our at the time two year old (now 7) immediate bonded and we knew it was an adoption instead. His name came from our two year old and his favorite snack at the time. He was a stray and in recent years due to some marking of older dogs his age came into question. We thought around 8, but he may have been older. Last December we took him in for what we thought was a bad tooth and it turned out he had an aggressive form of cancer growing in his soft pallet. We explored all of our options, but none gave us any bright outlook other than buying a few extra months. He made it the six that were predicted. Through the whole time he continued on just like as before with no signs of slowing down outside of appetite. Once he went two days without being able to eat we had to make the decision and make the tough choice. He was an awesome dog that acted far more like our lab than any beagle I have known before. He will be greeted by his sister Ellie who we lost last May.

Before meeting my wife I never paid attention to the whole mythology of Cardinals and them being lost loved ones checking in on you until Ellie past last year. Every time we see one my son points out that Ellie is here. Today at the vets we had to do everything outside due to the COVID issues of not having more than one person present indoors. Perched on a tree above us was a cardinal. As soon as it was over it flew away. Seems like she carried Cheerio home.

Very sorry for your loss. Have to say that 2020 has been pretty lousy thus far.

Couldn't agree more. What a disaster year on so many levels. Sorry to hear of your loss, Douglas. Happy that she was at least able to go on her own terms and in a place she loved. Still so tough though.

Sorry for your losses guys...
And THIS is the reason why they say getting a dog is a countdown to sorrow.
Hurts like hell to lose them... which is why the wife and I don't ever want to go through that again.

So for God's sake, let's get this thread back into the happy zone again.
My wife and I now live vicariously through our Grand-dogs.
This is Penny, she's a sassy little gal who lives for Whataburger fries in San Antonio.

And this is Storm, my son and his fiance rescued him from a shelter in northern Colorado (or did he rescue them? ... ugh, sorry about that). Ironically, Storm is afraid of thunder... :)

Sorry to hear of your loss, @gingerlover . As I say every time, that's the hardest decision to make. Getting teared up just typing this.

Don't worry, Diddy. You're still going to cry like a baby when these pups are gone. Storm is an awesome looking dog.

Last man standing at my house (from 4) man is he getting spoiled. Begging for dinner here ;)

No hunting or ball chasing anymore as his hips are going. About to turn 12. I blame my pending shoulder replacement on his ball drive , lol,

You know you're right... I'll probably ball like a little baby when it's his time to go over the Bridge.

Here is Storm in his "What the hell is that noise?!?" look during a recent lightning storm. He's in front of his personal dresser (treats and toys) that my son's fiance decorated for him:

And his Rico Suave persona:

This is my wife's loveable lap dog. My wife is in a nursing home now "recovering" from heart problems and her pup misses her so much.
