I thought we had talked through some of this and our biggest issue was inconsistency play to play by the individual lineman - i.e. one guy out of five was out of position or beaten leading to issues in the backfield.

And Dillman... I thought it was the high rate of ligament injuries? I do not have the data but I know that was the narrative - especially in 2013. Seemed like we couldn’t go 3 days without a new ACL tear.

It's not the Oline's fault.
Dorky Dan asks them to do things that are too hard.
Nick "Richard Simmons" Savage hasn't made anybody stronger. Just prettier.
John Hevesy is a genius that is hampered by the confederacy of dunces around him.

Try to keep up.

:lmao2:

It isnt too hard, it is fvkking stupid. It is fckking retarded to not block the DE and count on his fear of Cement Shoes Trash keeping the ball to freeze the DE.

That was the best law impression I have seen on this board. I was dying. Can’t believe you “stoned” him.

That’s where I think our limited understanding of what they are doing ends this conversation. What if they just are not picking up the scheme well and it makes them hesitant? If the other team is exploiting that hesitancy, they’d have a “strength” advantage. Just too hard to know unless our guys consistently get beaten on 1v1 assignments.
It was a concern. How much of that was due to stupid practice volume by muschamp or just bad luck is up for debate and we'll never know. I wasn't saying Dillman was definitely good; just showing that one aspect that was impressive and is the type of thing you look for. Right now, I think the production we can point to is conditioning, right?
I do not believe in luck at that scale. Maybe some bad luck was mixed in for a few injuries but the real culprit had to be programmatic for it to be that widespread.

So are we getting bigger and stronger under savage? Better cardio endurance? Faster, more agile? Unreal Donkey strength? We recruited smurfs and they don’t gain weight...
Curious from the SnC guys perspective

I think the salary was/is appropriate. He had been a head S&C coach at Miss State for less than 12 months when he got the UF job and he was only 27 or 28 years old.

He'll get his money in due time. He's only $40K away from being 26th on that list.

Quoting myself from 2019.......'the salary is appropriate'.

When this thread was started there was so much Savage d*ck sucking going on for him like he invented strength & conditioning. Now, reading the most recent comments in this thread, that sentiment has completely flipped. I'd say give him a pass for the China Virus, but a lot of this is on him to be sure. These kids are way undersized and unprepared.

I was very pro Savage in the first year. To be fair, Pee Wee Herman would've been an upgrade over mac's yoga/s&c coach, so it was easy to get pumped about the early signs of improvement. Unfortunately, we seem to have hit our ceiling already, which is concerning. I hope that 2020 is a legit alibi for the pause in development, but I'm not holding my breath...

Edit: I also wonder how much of this is granthem demanding smaller/faster players who can't pack on the weight... or maybe settle for those guys because we can't recruit the elite guys who have the frame, athleticism and potential to develop their physique. Whatever it is, I suspect granthem shares some blame.

They can't tackle, they don't wrap up, and they can't stop a blocking dummy. I can't knock Savage as much as Grantham...Heck...the O line seems to be hanging tough.

I’d blame recruiting before I blame Savage tbh. He’s working with one hand tied behind his back and trying to make miracles happen with guys too small for their position.

These kids need to find a “GNC” and go on the Grier diet.

It is a LONG way from 210 pounds to "ready to play DE in the SEC". Ask Zach Carter, who has been spectacular so far, btw.

I think he has done well, especially being asked to play out of position so much. I think he and Cox would do a bit better (Cox still making the freshman mistakes though) if we had more of an interior. to support them

Agreed. Zach Carter at SDE would be a huge improvement over Cox.

Frankly I'm not sure Cox is ready to be on the field at all.

Out of the squadron of skinnies, I think probably Bogle looks the best so far.

The stupid thing about signing eight of these skinny Rush guys and lining them up for the same position is six of them will probably transfer next year.
