Disagree a little.....hope left town when we failed to properly recruit a roster for defense 2 and 3 years ago....this defense has been taking on water since 2017 and although we were able to stick our finger in a couple of the holes in 2018-2019 it was plain to see once Greenard and Zuniga were hurt that we would be taken apart by any competent offense.

Hell we limped to a win over Uvag in the Obowl and had 600 plus put on us in the first game. Sh!t we let Chump and a guy named Bobo make us look silly and were a couple of dropped passes from losing to them last week.

I'm gonna guess Kentucky will put 500 plus yards on this defense and possibly UT too.
Agree on all your points. For me, yesterday was the final straw. Wasn’t the performance on the field that did it. It was our head coach making excuse after excuse for the loss (crowd noise, schedule, etc.) instead of owning it and promising to do everything in his power to improve. Watch Dan’s presser yesterday and Tim’s presser after 08 Mississippi and tell me which one is a winner/leader and which one is complacent/ok with status quoue.

Gators have the offense and special teams to play with any team in the country, defense not so much.
Its pretty easy to figure out what the problem is though, we have the same coaches from last year that produced a top 10 team on defense. It simple the coaching hasn't changed the players have.

Why? Recruiting is probably the number one issue here. To put it mildly recruiting on the defensive side of the ball has not been what it needs to be for Fl. to compete a high level. Until it gets better the Gators defense is what it is, with Fl. fighting for 2nd , 3rd of fourth place in the East.

How do you fix it recruit better of get someone that can

Yes, we lost some personnel, but the scheme is the same. Third and Dwag started last year.

Killer instinct needed on play calling and staff ;).
This is something no one has touched on yet. Even though we've put up decent numbers on offense we still see sections of the game that are downright baffling. I wonder how much of the stuff we run in the 1st quarter and beginning of the 3rd is scripted? I wonder how long it will work with teams getting more and more film on it? Defense is what it is but I'm not 100% sold on the offense until I see it working in weeks 5,6 and 7...Mullen isn't a terrible offensive mind BUT he isn't the quickest to throw in fresh looks and change ups either...

If we have a loud crowd the opposing QB will suddenly lose sight of wide open receivers all over the field

Mullen blaming the "crowd noise" which was not even 30% of the noise that's regularly on display every weekend was embarrassing to say the least

The absurdity is our offense did great, did not have false start penalties, and gave up no "noise" related sacks. Rather, we are supposed to believe their crowd was creating a lot of noise against their own offense, and in the process, impacting our defense. Overall, it is one of the dumbest, grasping for excuses efforts possible.

No one in our media called him on it? Hey coach, can you explain how crowd noise impacted the defense? Was the crowd yelling, "Bigger cushion. Bigger cushion." and it subliminally convinced Marco Wilson to play an extra 10 yards off each play?

There were timeouts taken due to delay of game but certainly not related to crowd noise.

Given the fact that this coaching staff thought Franks was the better option at QB over Trask, I have to question how many other positions do they have the wrong guy playing. I can’t believe the QB position was the only one they F’d up on.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Mullen will never win a championship. He's not that type of guy. Many have noticed he doesn't have a 'killer instinct'.

However, he is a Mark Richt kind of guy that will keep us relevant and in the polls. Coming from being a laughing stock under Chump and Butters that's exactly what we needed at the time, someone to build up our reputation. That's all I expect from Mullen. In that he has succeeded.

My hope is that he fills the roster with enough talent so that in 5 or 10 years when he is fired we can get a real winner as head coach. I believe that is where we are and where we are headed for the foreseeable future

I never thought we would go undefeated but I thought we would finally get back at Gajaw... Doesn't look like we have a chance right now...... maybe they will have a covid outbreak just before our game.... I'm back to praying for miracles....

I'm disappointed but still have hope.

In the three games we've played so far I'd have a hard time thinking of a series where our defense forced the other team's offense off the field by stopping them. Most times the only reason our opposition hasn't converted on 3rd or 4th down was because of some mistake THEY made (dropped or errant pass) not that our defense held them. There was a fumble or two that caused a turnover, but again, that was a mistake THEY made and not our defense stopping them.

I've never in all my years watching Gator football seen a more porous Gator defense. And no, not even '79. There is no way Mullen can hide from this no matter how hard he seems to be trying. It's glaring. And worse, they have absolutely no way to make it better. None. These players are not good. They are waaaaay too small for the positions they're playing. Our d-line gets man handled at the LOS and the linebackers freeze and let the ball carrier make it to the second level and then can't shed any blockers to even come close to making a tackle. Our DBs are too short and too slow to cover prototypical WRs these days. And the angles they take are just plain AWFUL. They have no football instincts it appears. And they are too small to tackle even a 200 pound back one on one in the open field. Our DEs are constantly getting pinched inside leaving the edges wide open. The list is endless and there's no magical remedy. We will lose to Tennessee. We will lose to Georgia. We will lose to Missouri. We may lose to LSU and Kentucky. It's that bad. After years of waiting, this is going to be a terrible waste of a season and some outstanding offensive talent.

I think we should just not bother to field a defense. I mean surely the offense will drop enough passes or fumble the ball out of bounds or something to give us a turnover at least once per game. That way our offense will get the ball back quicker too. I'd much rather watch our offense than our defense.

Seriously the crossroads for this coaching regime. Outside of the Vandy game if there is not some magical change on defense, we could lose every one of them. Going 6-4 or 5-5 this season and then going into the next when the schedule is loaded and breaking in a new QB (no offense Emory) losing key offensive weapons......well I think we can all follow that doomsday scenario. We will see how it plays out and Mullen is going to have to take a hard look in the mirror and his staff and hold them accountable. As I said, barring a miracle, Grantham needs to be sh*t-canned at the end of the season.
