Impressive is when you only manage to score 7 points and throw two pick-6s, and you somehow surmise that the d-line coach has to be fired
- that is impressive.
the offense is scoring points right now but if Dan Mullen fired Knox in the middle of the game that would be impressive too.

Some position coaches are failures regardless of how the unit performs

I'd be thrilled to be fired knowing they still had to pay me $830,000.

I'm not sure if a head coach firing an assistant in the middle of a game is a good look. Future assistants may be hesitant to want to work for a guy like that.

I knew Pruitt was an ******* but a confirmation was nice...

Yeah, I’d say “looks”, along with proper English, are not that important to this guy. He couldn’t even figure out how to wear his mask. Anyone who knowingly signs up to work with him is already a tad off and deserves whatever may come his way.

Here's a short article on the IN GAME firing:

SOURCE: Jeremy Pruitt fired assistant coach Jimmy Brumbaugh DURING loss to Kentucky

SOURCE: Jeremy Pruitt fired assistant coach Jimmy Brumbaugh DURING loss to Kentucky | Kentucky Sports Radio

The ‘Cats big win in Knoxville on Saturday was unprecedented not just on the field but in other ways as well.

A source close to the UT program tells KSR that Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt fired assistant coach Jimmy Brumbaugh during the game on Saturday. Pruitt let Brumbaugh go while the game was still being played, confirming it after it was over.

The official announcement of the firing didn’t come until the day after on Sunday when Pruitt said that “from a philosophical standpoint, things are just not a fit, and it just didn’t work out for us,”. Pruitt had been critical of the UT defensive line even before the beatdown they suffered at the hands of Mark Stoops and company which led to the dismissal of Brumbaugh, who was also the defensive line coach at Kentucky from 2013-16, not even eight months after he was hired back in February. Considering most of Tennessee’s issues seemingly stemmed from the offensive side on Saturday, the decision to fire Brumbaugh during the game is an unusual one.

I’ve been watching football for 35 years and I’ve never heard of a coach being fired in the middle of a game, college or pro. Pruitt looks retarded here.

It smacks of a coach that knows the problems in the program but has no clue how to fix them. So, he is throwing stuff at the wall hoping something sticks.

Not defending the guy, but let’s say a certain fella that may or may not be a doppelgänger for a 1980’s National Lampoon’s character were to fire their defensive coordinator, who happens to be the former defensive coordinator for his school’s biggest rival, in the middle of a game, would you still feel the same?

Yes it’s unprofessional and unnecessary. You have to think about the future and who is going to want to work for you. You don’t go out of your way to humiliate employees even if they deserve it.

How would Pruitt feel if the AD fired HIM in the middle of a game?

Yes it’s unprofessional and unnecessary. You have to think about the future and who is going to want to work for you.

Other than a person who creates "a HR problem" any one who gets fired should have every opportunity to prove that they can't get the job done. If you do stuff like this no one who can be some place else is going to come work for you and people who you try to engage about where they can do better will automatically assume they are next and start looking. The end result is you're left with a cast of misfits and hacks.

Ditto on everyone talking about firing an assistant coach for the defense in the middle of the game. Kentucky had 17 points at the half when he was fired.

AND ZERO OF THEM WERE ON THE DEFENSE. TWO PICK SIXES AND A THIRD INTERCEPTION AT TENNS 35 THAT LED TO A FIELD GOAL.

The defense was literally the only thing working. The defense essentially shut them out.

Not that it would be excusable if those 17 points were on the defense. It just makes no professional sense, as you guys said, but those stats makes it even worse.
