We have three leading candidates for three major post-season awards; the Lou Groza award for the best kicker, the the John Mackey award for the best tight end, and the Heisman for the most outstanding player.

Trask is also in the running for the Maxwell (outstanding player), Walter Camp (player of the year), Davey O'Brien (quarterback), and Johnny Unitas (senior quarterback).

It's a bit of a stretch but Pitts was also named to the Biletnikoff award watch list which goes to the best receiver. No tight end has ever won that award but this is a crazy year.

Given that it all depends on Covid/injuries...

Pitts should win the Mackey. No brainer.

McPherson has a chance at the Groza. He had a miss against UGA but he also had a pair over 50 in that game. On the other hand, he missed the Missouri game. Lots of guys in the running but McPherson has performed on the big stage. He deserves it.

Trask has a lot of competition to overcome in Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Trevor Lawrence. He has arguably done more with less (and Fields and Lawrence have been feasting on poor competition). He should win SOME post-season awards but I don't think he wins the Heisman.

If I were to be bet I would say Trask gets Unitas award. Pitts with Mackey should already be wrapped up.

In this crazy year Pitts deserves some Heisman love as well. He has been the most dominant player on the field in every game we have played.

Kicker award is like the best Donkey show award in Tijuana... we only care about it when SD wins it.

Our kickers never win. They will give it some guy from Liberty or Coastal Carolina
Yes, it's been about 27 years since Judd Davis won it but I wish I could find his quote about missing enough field goals to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated as he was mentioning overhyped FSU kicker Scott Bentley.
Facts.

The Groza voters suck.

Alex.
I agree but I didn't argue with them voting Judd back in the day. I miss the days when our punters(Shayne Edge) and kickers used to talk schiite.

Caleb Sturgis deserved it.

Imagine if he kicks a game winning FG in Atalanta over 50+ I would love to see that happen for McPherson...you gotta give to him the Groza then right?

As Trask said these awards are somewhat a team effort. If the Kyle connection was missing either player it would not be as effective. And of course without blocking, correct route running, etc. much of the success would not happen. I would be very happy if we win the awards, better that we are SEC champs and in the finals.

Let's see where Trask finishes up...on pace for a ridic year for a 10 game schedule. Media will likely anoint Fields as the greatest player that ever walked the face of the earth but honestly, Trask has outshined the QBs in the nation this year.

Speaking of Gators who got shafted by a post-season award...

Rex Grossman should have been the first sophomore to win the Heisman, but they gave a lifetime achievement Heisman to that tool Crouch, the Nebraska QB. Apparently Rex was a "product of the system" and Crouch wasn't :rolleyes3:

I still don't understand how Reggie Nelson was passed over for the Thorpe in 2006. That was ridiculous. I think a lot of the Thorpe voters are Big 12 homers or something.

Alex, if Dixon didn't get injured in '07 he would been handed the award even though he had worse statistics, because this team record and being an upper classman. Grossman was by far the best player his sophomore year.

Crouch was a lifetime achievement and one highlight play where he caught the long TD. Even Dorsey had a better year

Anybody find it odd no defensive players are showcased? I was going to list all of Tebow's awards and accolades but it exceeded the site's bandwidth.
