That comes across as an arranged departure.
I tend to agree except that the timing seems very odd. December 1st? With Florida the heavy favorite to be heading to Atlanta for their biggest game in 11 years????? Extremely odd timing for an arranged departure. February 1st would seem way more likely.

"My choice...they treated me well," means he chose to accept an early retirement offer from the Sun, with a severance bonus conditioned on him getting the fuchs out by the end of the month.

That is exactly what it sounds like, the lost of revenue due to the lack of paper sales and the reduced profit due to Covid, they probably gave him a nice retirement buyout deal.

It is truly a huge loss to gator nation. Tooley is the Shakespeare of sports writers. His erudite articles are beyond compare. I for one will weep at such a loss. I'm on the phone with my therapist as I type. He is talking me off the ledge.

Too bad they didnt have a thriving message board that kept constant traffic to their shiiity website.

Now that I think about it.... I'd like to take credit for finally getting Dooley fired

Does this mean they'll finally hire a good young journalist that can actually write?

I think we all know they'll eff up the hire.

They are going to hire another yes man to cover the organization... so they can keep their "access".

The Sun really should be embarrassed by their sports coverage.

As the only established paper in a small college town, they should have relationships and access to provide some really insightful material.

Instead, people like Ed Ashcroft (RIP, what a tragedy) would actually do good work and go national. When he, or even the bowl cut kid, would go national and cover a dozen teams, they would still outperform the Sun, despite the Sun’s advantages.

Lazy, apathetic, and nonappreciative of its readers: the sun is the Coach Mac of newspapers

I was about to post this same question. WTF is he talking about?
Probably not the millions of dollars that say a fired football coach gets.

Good reddens, some time ago he admitted he is not a Gator because of his so called job. I dislike his putting his foolish personal life into his job as well. Who cares what music he might enjoy, or how he does at golf?

Once the sun screwed up the message board they lost their base and no one wanted to use their pay wall. Couldn't keep their high priced journalists (loosely defined). I'm with ox on this one: find some young journalists who can write and actually like the Gators!
