About half way through that start talking about the defense. Just fire the entire defensive staff - except maybe the DL Coach.
Fire Grantham, English (safeties), Gray (CBs), Robinson( LBs, Dawg) and fire Knox or get a coach dedicated to special teams.
If we don't win a championship this season it falls on the defensive coaches.
If you watch any of GNFP it's just amazing how many times LB/DBs just don't know where to be, use poor technique, etc. All could be fixed with competent coaching.

Special Teams have gone to hell since Nord left. I'll bet that dude has been working out and is itching and ready to get back into coaching. There's no way he's sitting in his easy chair right now with potato chips on his chin, no sir.

I'm sure he and Kent are living quite comfortably in a duplex at a very nice assisted living facility.

I guess one thread for this podcast wasn't enough. I knew it was good, but dang!

That's what I was thinking. He has a solid resume. And he did a very good job the first time he was here. That's why the poor CB's play is so baffling and maddening. I think it has to be scheme. Gray has proven to be a very good coach.

Who do you hire if you can Grantham? I look around the country and everyone's defense sucks. I'm not sure who we could hire that would improve the defense that is a realistic option.

Kevin Steele intrigues me if he would come. He would be decent, and he has a multi-year track record. Barry Odom would not come IMO. I doubt Mason comes because he and Mullen don't like each other.

Keep looking. We're talking about somebody better than the dwag, so you don't have to set the bar that high. Heck, is Clarabelle available?

Kevin Steele is underrated and could be acquired IMO. He's consistently been in the next tier behind Bama and UGA in the SEC as far as the defensive product on the field is concerned. But he's also had less talent than them. He'd have more talent at Florida than he did at Auburn, and he's coached in the southeast for a long time. He's also beaten Bama and UGA as a DC. Malzahn always seems like he's on the hot seat and a move to Gainesville could provide more stability.

Auburn has lost 20 games with Steele as DC. Points allowed in those losses:

2016:

Clemson 19
Texas A&M 29
Georgia 13
Bama 30
Oklahoma 35

2017:

Clemson 14
LSU 27
Georgia 28
UCF 34

2018:

LSU 22
MSU 23
Tennessee 30
Georgia 27
Bama 52

2019:

Florida 24
LSU 23
Georgia 21
Minnesota 31

2020:

Georgia 27
South Carolina 30

If Mullen is coaching the offense in those games, Auburn wins a vast majority of those games.

Call me crazy, but I'd like to take a closer look at Marquand Manuel. He has a mixed record as an NFL coach, to be sure. But working for the Falcons and the Eagles isn't exactly a clear path to early success. At 41, he is just entering the "prime of life" so to speak and he has the credentials and the relative youth to be a solid prospect for a DC job at the power 5 level. Being a Gator, with a background in the Miami area, doesn't hurt either.
