Giblet gravey. My yankee daughter-in-law refers to it as "vomit stew". She makes good grits and even eats slimy okra with peas but can't seem to stomach the giblet gravey.
For some reason, "giblet gravy" makes me think it may be a gravy made with turkey testicles... No thank you...

I grew up on it, nothing screams thanksgiving more to me than giblet gravy.

My wife’s family is from Ohio so they were a little freaked out by it at first but are fully on board now. My wife invited some work friends to our thanksgiving last year so I suggested I make some non-giblet gravy for them to choose and she shot that down and said they can pick around what they don’t want ;-)

Gizzards are actually the stomach of a chicken. Other than giblet gravey which consists of boiled cut up gizzards and diced boiled eggs with a bit of corn starch for thickening, I love deep fried gizzards as a snack. I agree with flg8rfan in that giblet gravy screams of Thanksgiving.

From Google: Giblets are those extra parts of the turkey you don't roast on Thanksgiving: the heart, neck, gizzards and liver. Although most people don't usually eat them on their own at the Thanksgiving table, there are a few great ways to use them to add maximum flavor to your holiday dishes.

No thank you. I don't eat Mountain oysters or chitterlings and I'm not gonna eat no giblets. [\puke]

My wife raves about how her grandmother used to make gizzard stew. She says that when "Mamaw" wasn't looking she would sneak and eat some of the gizzards. She loves them. She also tried making some of the stew a few years ago. IMO, they would drive a maggot off of a gut wagon... [\puke]

Gizzards are highly underrated. I get it if you grew up without putting food on the table wasn’t an issue for your family, I bet cow brains and eggs would turn your hoity-toity fancy-pants tummy’s in a tail spin as well.

I bet her trying to make the stew was based on old recollections of what went in it and how it was made. All of my ‘mamaw’ recipes are mostly general guidelines—no measurements and ingredients were often substituted for what you had on hand.

It’s hard to cook that way off a memory and sometimes it turns out horrible.

I cannot make fried okra like my aunts and grandmother could (as much as I’ve tried). I just have had to settle for the pre-breaded stuff.

I haven’t had it, but have seen “Tofurkey” on a couple of cooking shows. First of all, I’m too much of a capitalist to eat tofu instead of turkey on Thanksgiving, despite how much they cost here in the Brandon World economy. Second of all, after trying some of Michelle Obama’s soy-laden “nutritious” meal items in school lunchrooms, I swore never to eat any of that crap again.

Wife did a brussel sprouts and carrots dish today with an orange-nutmeg glaze that was surprisingly good.

A tie between greenbean casserole with crunchy fried onion topping or sweet potato casserole with fuching marshmallows on top.

Been hanging around that carpetbagger too much byron. Though I do agree on the sweet potato casserole.

Anyone that eats a tofukey needs a swift punch in the throat...

That canned cranberry crap. I don't even know what to call it.

Not to reopen an old wound... but Back Alley needs to be sent away for this injurious slander against one of nature's finest Thanksgiving offerings.
I have two cans in the fridge chilling now - waiting for the right occasion, which I refer to as "Thursday".

(edit: the rest of my family won't come within 20 feet of this culinary masterpiece. Also... I cannot find the can opener)
