If you want to keep this from moving to the political forum stay away from the new Saved by the Bell.

I gutted through Bly Manor on Netflix. I do not enjoy slasher films, but do enjoy a well-made scary/haunted/possessed type flick. Bly Manor was done well enough, but man, it dragged. The end was OK, but you have to muscle through a lot to get there.

Haunting of Hill House was the first series in the anthology and it was much better than Bly Manor.

Do they have the obligatory gay and transgender characters thrown in for ratings?
Lol yep. It’s basically a show to teach rich white people the errors of their ways and to acknowledge their privilege and to listen to the minority. They then throw in the trans kid that’s back story is that they have a reality tv show where everyone follows and celebrates their story and the girl that is 5’2” and 90 lbs is the toughest and best football player at the school and will be starting QB.

Sounds exactly like the bizzaro world of 2020 that we are currently living in. Yep, it could happen.

Saw an advertisement the other night and told my wife I guarantee that one will have a woke bro theme to it.

I had a "free view" of HBO over the Thanksgiving long weekend. I binged "The Undoing". Despite decent enough performances from Hugh Grant, Nicole Kidman and that really hot Italian noob, the miniseries was "undone" by an insipid storyline, IMO. Not the worst thing to watch because the performers did pretty well with the crappy material. But only dive in if you're really at a loss for something else to watch.

Finished the DareDevil series on Netflix (I know it's been two years) and the series overall is very solid. I like the acting especially Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/DareDevil) and Vincent De'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin). In a slower burn than the Marvel movies and a lot more adult themed its a more gritty version of the universe. The other Marvel series had a hard time keeping my attention (and I stopped watching) and season two of this three season series was dragging comparative (Through Punisher actor John Bernthal is great). The acting of the other secondary characters is also a lot more solid in this series than the other ones. The world feels lived in and more grounded than the other Marvel series. Cox shows the duality and the toll it takes on a person as DareDevil. De'Onofrio is excellent and steals every scene he is in. The villian truly makes the series. This isn't Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones (outside the last two seasons), etc... but I also didn't expect it to be.

Currently watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix...if you’re a fan of GOT you’ll definitely like this. It’s so similar without the snow zombies and dragons. Wifey and I are loving it.

PSA though if you have young children make sure they are asleep. Our 3 year old snuck downstairs at the point a girl was stabbing a guy in his eyes. Now she asks every night if we’re gonna watch the show where the girl bloodies that guys face

The Queen's Gambit (Netflix)
Okay... I know... hear me out though. I'm not much for female character led dramas. However, occasionally, if the actress is attractive enough I can slog my way through. I've not seen Ann Taylor-Joy in any thing before but she has a face made for a particular flavor of porn which makes her watchable. She plays a chess prodigy (Beth Harmon) in the 60's who over seven episodes beats the snot out of everyone. Harmon has a bit of a love for tranqs and booze. The tranquilizers relax her to the point where she can see a chess board in her head and play chess on a more intuitive level.
Chess playing and chess watching makes up a lot of the screen time. No car chases, nothing blows up, not even any nudity. But the series is well written, avoiding cringy tropes. The janitor she, as a child, meets in the basement to learn chess isn't a perv. A couple adopt her and the father is not a perv. She does however learn that her crush is gay/bi or as he later describes it "curious". Can't have a story out of Hollyweird without at least one homo, though her charms are enough to eventually turn him straight. And it's implied that she has a one night stand with another woman but nothing more is made of it because... you know... that's normal behavior.
Other than that the dialog is refreshingly believable. Many times I expected the characters to say something stupid and instead utter reasonable responses. Harmon has a lot in common with Bobby Fisher who is said to have been so laser obsessed that he could rarely talk about anything other than Chess. Harmon, the character, however is a bit more personable. In the end ATJ is somewhat mesmerizing to watch do even mundane things.
Joe Bob says check it out.

ATJ, for research purposes

So i finished The Queen's Gambit last night around 3 am. Loved it. This morning I had to talk to a Ukrainian friend/colleague about work. We then talked about the show which led to talking about Bobby Fischer. The really interesting thing we talked about is how Tiger Woods was basically the "Bobby Fischer of Golf" in terms of how young they were, their approach to the game, and especially this: much like Tiger brought physical fitness/working out to the game of golf, due to the mental strain/length of matches involved in chess, Bobby Fischer started swimming for hours, boxing, and all kinds of other things to build mental and physical stamina for matches.

If you guys give me $100 Oxbucks, I'll post this in the Main Sports Forum just to start a schitstorm! ;)

We loved season 1 but season 2 dragged on. Loved the main character and his lawyer sidekick. The Punisher guy was great in DareDevil. Started watching Punisher and lost interest after a few episodes. We’re watching Arrow now, still only in Season 2. The wife is hot for the main character so we’ll probably continue that one.

Got through halfway through Arrow season 2 until it lost my interest, check out season 3, it's much better than 2 of daredevil.

Just started the new Showtime series with Bryan Cranston “Your Honor” and was hooked after the first episode. Through 3 now and it’s awesome. Highly recommend. Cranston plays a judge and his son hits and kills a kid on a motorcycle and flees...then comes the cover up...

Thanks. I'm pretty sure anything with Cranston in it is worth watching, he's just flat out good.

I'm late to the party but I've been watching Mr. Robot on Amazon. With discount Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) and discount Jack Nicholson (Christian Slater). It's a mind fck and three seasons in I'm not sure what's going on. Discount Freddy Mercury is a hacker who is absolutely crazy so you don't know what's real, in his head, or both real AND in his head. He schemes with others to to take down E"vil" Corp. Along the way there are lots of players including the highest political power brokers in the US and Chinese governments. It's also shot in a way that unsettles the audience. Some characters are rarely center screen and our often not only on the edge of the screen but looking to the short side of the screen. It's a subconsciously unsettling feeling. I'm not too in line with the politics which has that whole "Occupy Wall Street" vibe. But as we get into season three discount Freddy Mercury is realizing that anarchy is maybe not a good thing. We will see how that plays out. Joe Bob says check it out.
