Well everyone here predicted this would happen as soon as he was hired. I wonder which school will snatch him as a DC? I'm sure he'll get a few offers.
He won't have time to mess with football and spend all that money at the same time.

How does he do it?

@FootballScoop: The beautiful mess here is the unsigned amendment leading to a $2M additional payment???? What Will Muschamp's South Carolina contract could tell us about his future

Next time we need to make a hire we should refuse to hire a Jimmy Sexton client. It's complete bullsh*t (good for Muschamp/the coach, bad for the school). These AD's have no balls. The issue here is, WHO WAS TRYING TO HIRE MUSCHAMP AWAY FROM THEM??? Now he gets to take another job, get paid by the new school AND South Carolina pays the full buyout. smh (just like UF did when he left). These AD's are amateurs, while Jimmy Sexton is laughing all the way to the bank.

Good luck finding a coach you’d want who isn’t represented by Jimmy S.

It's decent hire. The problem is it's an impossible job because you have 4 potential top 5 teams on the schedule every year. Even if a coach can get them up to the level of consistently beating the directional schools, Vandy, UK, mizzou, and UT every year, and that's no small task considering UK and UT and mizzou will have at least equal talent most years, you still have to deal with UF, the dwags, A&M and Clemson every year and one of Bama, LSU and AU most years.

I think whoever compared this to Mullen at Cowbell is right on. Mullen was probably doing a better job than most of us thought, but the job is basically impossible and just staying above 500 will take some decent coaching and recruiting.

Interesting take. Spurrier was the best thing that ever happened to them yet the administration, de facto, made his position untenable. No one resigns in the middle of the season without some good reasons and Spurrier saw the writing on the wall.

Agree. I think it's a better sell, and more attractive program, than Msu, but the schedule puts is about on par. At present, Usce gets the shaft all around because of UF, uga, cross-division rival(A&M) and Clemson. As I've said, that's why it's a program for either long-shot up and comers who feel they feel they have few other options, and/or legends who just want to give it a shot in a decent location as one last hoorah. The difference is the fans who think that because a once in a life time hire had them in the hunt and won 11 games a few times, it should be expected. Spurrier completely destroyed them for at least a generation.

The buyout seems reasonable (compared to the usual full amount).

Details of Beamer's contract:

Details of Shane Beamer's contract at South Carolina

South Carolina’s board of trustees have approved a five-year deal for new head coach Shane Beamer, according to multiple reports today.

Those reports share that the deal will pay him an annual salary of $2.75 million.

That salary would be the lowest among the 13 SEC programs that publicly report their salaries. The next closest in salary is Sam Pittman at Arkansas, who makes a half million more annually at $3 million. The Gamecocks are on the hook to Will Muschamp for over $15 million in buyout money, per his contract.

If fired, Beamer would be due 65% of his contract by South Carolina.

Beamer was officially announced as the new leader of the program earlier in December after spending the last few seasons as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach under Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma.

We’ll bring more details of the contract, including more on the buyout terms and incentives, as they’re revealed.

They often start that way. But these schools bottom out with a 2-3 win season before making the switch. Then the moment the next guy “doubles the win total” with a 6-6 record in year 2, it’s agent leverage time, and they’re screwed. Rinse repeat.

Possibly. I don't understand how SC got locked into the ridiculous Muschamp buyout. It's not like there were other schools trying to poach him out from under them. The only school SC will have to worry about is VT. And that likely happens next year, so he likely doesn't bolt after one season.

SC board says that Torrian Gray is a candidate for their DB job (not their DC job, but DB) - just speculation for now. But for his name to come up tells me he may be doing some preemptive job searching in case he's let go - or a new DC doesn't want him retained. There's no reason in hell for Gray to be interested in the SC DB's job unless he's feeling some heat.

They apparently are keeping Bobo as OC. That'll go over well, since the team basically quit on him and refused to play the bowl game.

This is bad, sounds like something our administration would do -

BLUF: USC's 'biggest' donor angry/embarrassed to be associated w/ the school (has donated over $75 million):

USC’s biggest donor writes off school after it fails to acknowledge her mother’s death

USC's biggest donor writes off school after it fails to acknowledge her mother's death

COLUMBIA — University of South Carolina’s biggest benefactor, Darla Moore, says she regrets all her efforts for her alma mater after the school failed to acknowledge her mother’s death last week.

In a scathing letter sent to the USC board and administration April 5, Moore said her family received “deep expressions of appreciation and recognition from the faculty and leadership of Clemson University.”

The Lake City financier donated $10 million to Clemson for its school of education, which is named after her father.

But Moore has donated more than $75 million to USC, where the business school bears her name. She wrote off the school in her latest letter, the second time she has taken USC to task in less than two years.

“What did she receive from the University of South Carolina, the recipient of the most exceptional generosity in the history of this state by virtue of her life? NOTHING,” Moore continued in her letter obtained by The Post and Courier.

“There is not a university in the country that would exhibit this degree of thoughtless, dismissive and graceless ignorance of the death of a parent of their largest donor,” Moore wrote. “I continue to be embarrassed and humiliated by my association with you and all you so disgracefully and incompetently display to the community you are charged to serve and to whom you look for support.”

She ended the letter saying, “The deepest regret of my life is the effort and resources I have expended on your behalf.”

Moore declined comment when reached April 6.

Lorraine Moore died April 1 at age 89. Her funeral was two days later in Lake City. Eugene Moore, Darla Moore’s father, was a Clemson football captain and school principal who died in 2008.

USC expressed sympathy for Moore in a statement issued April 6, but the school declined comment on why it failed to acknowledge her mother’s passing when it happened or how it would try to repair the relationship with a major benefactor.

“The University of South Carolina family mourns the recent death of Lorraine Moore, the mother of one of our most prominent alumnae Darla Moore,” USC said in its statement. “We express our deepest condolences to Ms. Moore, who has done much for the university through her generous philanthropy and selfless service.

“President Caslen and the entire university community are grateful for her lasting contributions and our thoughts are with her and her family during this difficult time.”

Moore has been split with USC leadership since the board voted to hire retired West Point superintendent Bob Caslen as president in 2019.

She was upset at the how the search was conducted and how it ended with choosing a new leader who some criticized for lacking a doctorate and research pedigree of previous presidents. Gov. Henry McMaster, a trustee himself, lobbied other board members to hire Caslen.

Moore sent a letter to the board on the day before their final vote on Caslen with a request to restart the search.

“As the largest donor to the university and the namesake of one of the largest schools with a broad national reputation, I’m making a final appeal to the board to reject the rank political influence in selecting the next president,” Moore wrote at the time. “Notwithstanding the political nature of the board, the university is an institution of higher learning and the surest way to extinguish its integrity is to politicize it.”

Caslen was hired after a contentious 11-8 trustee vote while a group of students and faculty protested outside the board room.

Moore reportedly has not been in contact with the board or new administration since the vote. She still works with leadership of the business school.
