If you asked me to recap this game I wouldn't even know where to begin. What I keep thinking about is Dean's fumble after the interception early. The very next play was a Bama TD. Dean just hanging on to that damn ball could have been the difference in the game.

He was caring the ball like a loaf of bread....... Really poor execution but not totally unexpected.

This loss is squarely on Dan. He's the one that lets Fat Todd do the same crap every week and allows 3 & 13 to play. He called the drive killing QB runs and then botched clock management the whole game. He allowed Delance back in. The D is horrible, Dean should have held onto the ball, but Dan did enough on top of that to screw us by not being a head coach who does what is needed.

We played a great game... Made some crucial mistakes....If we don't fumble the pick...we win...Your a hater

As I said in the chat, it’s so odd because he’s actually handled clock management really well this year, particularly at the end of halves. I guess his logic was we’re not playing for a tie, and with our defense, I guess that has some merit. But it forced the onside kick instead of a traditional. Either way, we’re probably staring at Harris for 3 plays. With 2 TOs, we get the ball back at our own 30-40 with a minute or so left. But it would be just to tie things. I guess he wanted to win. It makes some sense and could’ve been genius, but I think you have to conventional thinking there. He overthought it, imo.

I think DM has a habit of over thinking the obvious.....

I didn’t think it would be this close.

By halftime I was about to quit watching but stuck it out. I’m glad I did. No moral victories, but I’m proud of the way our guys fought to the end. This was a VAST improvement over our last 2 SECCG appearances. Nothing Buttery at all.

I hope and expect it will help with recruiting - both HS and x-fers.
Good for you. I was so discouraged that I gave up at half time.

You can go for 2 after the second score if you are set on not playing for overtime. Nothing about calling that TO could ever be considered genius.

And there are obvious ball protection mistakes where a defender is not careful. But in his defense, he just got destroyed out of nowhere. Not many players hold on there. But yes, that may be the game. They didn’t make any notable adjustments at half and we out scored them in the final quarters. That, the 3 and out at midfield after the 4th down stop and Trask’s fumble we’re the difference.

Using the two timeouts at the end of the last drive is inexcusable. For obvious reasons. And thats why its so inexcusable. Because its so obvious my 77 year old mother was baffled.

Proud of the team, but doggone it I'm tired of just being proud of effort in a loss.

When was the last time you were proud of the effort in a loss to Bama?

Some mistakes? I lost count of the crucial mistakes. When we constantly put on a crap show like this and have the nerve to call it out then I guess I'm a hater. This was far more than just fumbling a pick away from us winning despite cutting the lead down late. Maybe its the fact that this was our last chance for what looks like a while thanks to recruiting to win something again. This man was gifted an amazing offense and he pissed it a way being stubborn.

i thought it was a great play by the Bama receiver to cause the fumble. Dean was crushed...he didn’t see the hit coming. Gotta give credit when it’s due.

True. And no I’m not calling it genius. I’m just saying little details get swept under the rug if things ultimately go well, and narratives change. I couldn’t believe it at the time because it made no sense.

First championship setting for Mullen, and I think it showed.

Great interception but look at the replay, the ball was in one hand, away from his body, I don't think that's the way you are taught to carry the ball........ Good hit by the Bama player..... Great play on the ball carrier.

With all due respect, he was gifted an unranked QB, a like 14th best HS TE and an athlete that was ranked in the 60s at his position. We can claim that the stars just aligned for Mullen and he had three future all stars on his roster that literally no one saw coming, or we can give a little credit to the development and scheming that he did with them.

Look, I’m upset about tonight as well, but the notion that he just walked into a Lamborghini is beyond wrong. If you look at what he’s done, and the caliber of players he brought in, which are just as good or better, you can actually feel good about the future. Different looking offense to a degree, yes. But we will be very good moving forward.

1) He is a DB not a RB.
2) He was carrying the ball out from his body, but he did have it on the side away from the only prospective tackler he was aware of.
3) He was blindsided by a crushing tackle from the rear and
( other) side. In fact, had it been a block instead of a tackle, it would have been illegal. Saw one called in another of today's games.

No problem AR, if you don't think the way he was caring the ball had anything to do with the fumble, that's ok with me. I've seen 100's of replays of guys getting hit like that and not fumbling because the were protecting the ball. It was a great hit by the Bama player but in my opinion, lack of ball security assured the fumble.

Yes, of course the play clock runs, but how Mullen could think that going for 2 (which you shouldn't need a TO for anyway) is more important than a timeout in that situation tells you he knows nothing about clock management.

He admitted post game that it was bad clock management and a mistake. He said we should have had a 2 pt play ready to go.
