Wife wants to go to the keys for a few weeks in March. We are old and over Key West.. haven’t been down that way in probably a decade or more. Looking for some inshore fishing, good food and relaxation. Maybe kayaking or back country exploring.

Any recommendations would be appreciated . Thanks!

Ever been to Alaska? Don't know what you like but you could wait til May and hit the Chinook or Sockeye runs. I had a friend always trying to talk me into going with him and renting a cabin from the National Park Service but I never made it.

We were supposed to fly into Eagle, AK and canoe down the Yukon to Circle on a two week camping trip this past summer. Trip of a lifetime for us and the kids. A stupid bat from China canceled our plans.

Keys? Try Islamorada or Marathon.

Love Alaska. Trying to plan a big trip for there a year from now when my wife retires. We have been looking at those small boat cruises that go where the big ships can’t. Just damn expensive. Went years ago and stayed in different National Parks. Spent more time inland than on the coast due to weather (8’ swells in the bays..lol..) had a relative that was volunteering with the park service that summer, so we went to lots of bbq with the rangers. Man did we eat good. You think you have hiked mountains in Colorado, then you go to Alaska. I’m rambling (Grantham drunk pissed) but Alaska is simply stunning

Cudjoe Key. It's around MM20 so you can always duck into Key West if you want. One of the best vacays I've had. We rented a place on the water and a boat. Every morning walked out the back door, hopped in the boat, spent the day lobstering/fishing. Grilled dinner on the lawn. We went with a few other couples so that helped. We rented jet skis but I'm sure you can rent Kayaks. The place we stayed had everything for rent. Unfortunately I can't remember the name.

Little Conch Key located @ MM 62 just north of Marathon has houses that can be rented by the week or month. Has boat slips, harbor. Duck Key is close by as well and has pretty much everything one would need while staying down there.

I like Big Pine Key if I’m staying in the middle keys. The fishing is awesome and the key deer are an added bonus. I caution you going in March, though. Lots of windy days that cause high seas and will keep you off the water. When you can get out, the fishing can be ridiculously good especially for dolphin and sails.

Alaska IS expensive. I went to Kodiak 2 years ago for work. Went to Taco Bell for dinner a few times. The $5 Taco Box cost $9.00...

I’ve done a month on Sugarloaf Key, and a week on both Summerland Key and Big Pine Key - Sugarloaf in June, Summerland in November, and Big Pine in the Summer. A lot depends on the house you get which skews opinions, but I still think we liked Sugarloaf the best - far enough from Key West, but close enough to go if we wanted to. Enough restaurants and grocery stores close enough to be convenient, and the Keys are just “better” west of the 7 mile bridge, especially if you’re looking to flats fish.
