We have a Star Wars room, where “The Empire Strikes Back” is on continuous loop in the weeks leading up to NSD. Does that count.

See now you’re being ridiculous. If there’s any Star Wars playing it’s ROTJ, specifically the Jabba scene with a boozed up, bikini clad Carrie Fisher chained to him. Minus the weird guy at the door, that’s basically every night for Grantham.

Tough to strategize when your DC keeps excusing himself every half hour to “use the restroom”.

Robinson is a pretty good recruiter. Not a significant drop off from Gray.

I know many of you hate Chimp but his defenses were solid. Id like to have that defense without Chimp. Not sire of TRob can do it.

Like Gray, Robinson mostly played bump and run man or Sabanesque tight zone. No idea how this squares with Grantham's shytshow.

Perhaps if we promote a coDC this will insult Grantham encourage him to GTFO asap on his own.
Grantham...insulted? Has he ever watched a replay of his **** show. The emperor has no clothes.

TIFWIW, but I am hearing...

decision to keep Grantham was buyout $ related, and a decision made above Mullen.

If true, I’m sure that wouldn’t create a toxic environment.

Mullen just, more than likely, sealed his fate. I was probably more supportive of Mullen than most around here but the end to the season has highlighted some character flaws that will be hard to overcome. Winners win and losers lose. Mullen talked a good game about being competitive and winning in thumb wrestling. Well that must not carryover to the football field. His arrogance cost us the LSU game. Sitting Pitts is not a big deal on its own. But when you do it in the fashion that he did you’re showing the players that this should be easy. Like we’re Alabama and we’ll just walk over them anyway. Fatal mistake for a team with so many flaws. And the most egregious of mistakes is retaining Todd. How can you walk in to living rooms and tell families you’ll take care of their son when half the defense is playing out of position? Who does that benefit? A few of the guys now should be considering a lawsuit for how they’ve been grossly mismanaged. Burney looked like he never played football before. But you can’t blame him. He’s not an ILB. Dean looks like the best safety on the team yet Davis and Stiner start over him. I could go on and on. At this point maybe Mullen is the one that needs to move on.

Next year I don’t care about wins and losses. Mullen needs to show that he’s serious about winning or maybe he can go back to Starkville. Crazy thing is he’s actually a really good on field coach. But if he doesn’t have the balls to be the head man at UF we need to cut bait.

Decision to keep Joe Lee Dunn Jr. was about pennies? That is just more UNsurprising news coming from the ATH. Dept.

I think you might be confusing scoring a lot of points as being a good on field coach? I think actually he is a SHYTTY on field/in game coach. Brutally mismanaging the clock TWICE in the biggest game of the year in easy clock management situations shows you are a shytty on field coach. Letting a QB run power 2 plays in a row when your OLine sux and your QB is as mobile as Frankenstein shows you are not good on the field. Calling zero coverage on D and having your DB showing outside leverage, shows you are a shytty on field coach. Game after game after game these things occur. The 9-3 or 8-4 records hide this to most. But every week there are 10-12 obvious situations that are complete head scratchers that make a huge difference. Given our financial shortcomings and our admin lethargy, it is those 10-12 plays each game that a competent HC will ace and put us at a level where we might have a small chance of competing at the very top. Consistently competing at the very top takes total commitment at the very top, which we do not have.

I think Mullen is a good to very good, but not excellent, Offensive Coordinator. He’s not a very good Head Coach at all. While he has shown an ability to adapt his offense to the skills of his QB, his stubbornly trying to revert back to his preferred scheme mid-game is what keeps him from being an excellent OC.

Let’s assume this is accurate. This means it doesn’t matter what coach is brought in, the university isn’t interested in winning. Saban just needs to ask for something and it is done. How many buyout has barn made over the years. Dabo and Jimbo get whatever they want. This is much worse than Mullinz being incompetent.

I don’t share all your reviews on Mullins, but I do think and have thought that this is a very plausible scenario. Mullen was clearly a third choice for Stricklin. The idea that they are friends or that Dan has no risk is wrong. He was allowed to fill out his staff the way he wanted, including hiring Grantham. If now, at the close of year 3, Mullen is asking for money to not only buy him out but pay for an upgrade, the answer could very easily be “no, this is your mess”. Generally I point to our cheapness as somewhat of an excuse for Mullen and any other UF coach being hamstrung by our AD. But in this case, because of the nature of the hire which was widely known to be controversial, I do not. I could see Stricklin seeing this as “you live or die next season” moment.

Now, do I trust him to make a good hire? Not really. But if—as is rumored—he stood his ground on the Grantham issue, I feel slightly better.
