That may be true. But it may be the safest move if Mullen leaves as far as stability goes. If I had to pick one assistant, he be it. I give him a pass for his time at Houston because applewhite is a hobo and was most likely in charge of the offense.

No, those jobs aren’t equal, which is the whole point. No one cares what Saban couldn’t do at MichSt or Spurrier couldn’t do at Usce. Those programs are perennial losers, just like Miss State. But you focused on 12 years of nothing when Spurrier did the same thing between 2001 and 2015. How is that different? Do you really believe that if Spurrier had taken a top level job that he’d have gone that long without a title?

So judge Mullen on his time here, which has its own faults. I’m good with that. But acting as if he was expected to win something in Starkville is nonsense.

And yes, Sherril won the West in 1998 with an 8-5 record. Do you know what the big three’s records were that year? Alabama was 7-5, Lsu was 4-7 and Aub was 3-8. You think that contributed, or no? And they were later found to be breaking the rules during that time?

My point stands. That job sucks and no one should gauge anything by what he did, or didn’t do, there.

Also, Spurrier himself raves about that ‘90 team he inherited. We had talent everywhere. I’m not sure if that’s what your referring to or his 2005 Usce team. If the latter, yes they were bad. But in any event, no one is knocking him, definitely not me. But he’s not winning at Msu either.
You could have saved yourself all that typing and just posted the facepalm emoji.

I'll also throw a name out there that would interest me. Joe Brady. That LSU offense last was probably the best I've ever seen. Then I look and he's done a solid job with Bridgewater. He seems like a fast riser. I'd be interested to see what kinda staff he'd put together and how interested he'd be in the college game long term. I want an offensive coach, just the complete opposite of uga and bama. No defensive minded guys or former oline coaches.

Fickle could be an interesting pick who might work out. He strikes me as a tough, gritty guy who isn’t an excuse making puzzy like Mullen. I don’t think he’s going to show up to a post game presser dressed as Darth Vader, or worse...Princess Leia. He has HC experience. He’s a young guy, mid to late 40s I believe so he should stick around awhile. Get him a good OC and he might be a decent pick.

What's up with all the hate on the Darth Vader thing. It was Halloween for Pete's sake! If he had beaten Bama, I would not have cared if he did his post game presser in Lea's metal bikini.

Yeah riley was obviously the clear cut oc and set records at ecu. He was in a league of his own for sure. But I do believe Johnson is the only one that mullen's ever given up play calling duties to. If we could keep our same offense and the solid qb play like we have, I think we'd all be happy if Johnson was willing to bring in some better recruiters and a new DC.

I don't think Kiffin would be a good fit for Florida, but USC was his only HC gig where he did a poor job of coaching and was fired for legitimate cause. He got fired from the Raiders because Al Davis had lost his marbles by then and forced him against his will to draft JaMarcus Russell. He left Tennessee of his own accord to go to USC, not because it didn't work out there. And he left on good terms from FAU after winning the second of two conference championships in three years, there were no issues there at all.

But he was 7-6 in his year at ut and was a 7-5 type coach this year in Oxford. And he has had issues in 2 of his now 4 stops and severely screwed one of his previous teams. My point is, you don’t trade
for that.

What exotic locale are Dan & his staff vacationing at right now? Anybody care to guess? We shouldn’t be too upset, though, most of the recruits signed in December & we got a few decent ones. No need for a staff member to pull a hamstring trying to land a few more between now & early February, right?

Mullen is also known in the coaching industry as being extremely family-oriented and loyal. While some program CEOs frown on vacation and family time during recruiting months, Mullen insists his coaches take paid vacations with their families after the season, even in recruiting windows.“

Dan Mullen’s decision on Todd Grantham may define his tenure at Florida

What a virtue-signaling weirdo. He has decided that it is healthy to take vacations, not just for himself but for everyone. Guy things he's from Mandalore and has everything all figured out. "This is the way!"

You know, not everybody needs or even wants to take a vacation DURING RECRUITING WINDOWS. Any chance that maybe the assistant coaches want to spend as much of that time as they can trying to bring in players who will help the team perform better, which is how those coaches earn a living and provide for their families??
Lets face it, he doesnt have a fuchsing clue how to win or even how to recruit well enough to leave a roster for the next guy to win.

Normally I’d say you make a great point except that the assistants he has are all losers that he personally handpicked. This group of bums is probably the exception to your point, which is why they flock to Mullen like flys to dung.

Say what you will negative about Kiffin but there is zero debate over his ability to direct an offense. The guy lit up the SEC in his first season, leading to a new contract.

Durkin & Co. need to figure it out on defense. They gave up 40 a game. That’s unacceptable if they expect to improve.
