Breath gets it. He may want to leave and the UA may even be hoping he does, but no NFL team is interested in his laissez fair attitude and mediocre results. And our UA isn't going to fire him over his missteps to this point. He'll be here next year, possibly begrudgingly so. I expect a mail it in disaster of a 21 season between the lack of talent on the field, in the coaching offices and these new developments indicating he wants to check out and may already have done so mentally. What a shtshow.

Mullen could do like Urban when he wanted to leave. He could stay and functionally hand the reigns over to BJ or TG, much like Urban did with Addazio, and otherwise fade into the background and distance himself from the sh!tshow. I seem to recall that turned out well ... for Urban, at least.

I dont think that is the case. If you are going to get rid of someone you need to get all your ducks in a row. You go silent until you are ready and the script is written. The fact that there is noise coming from Mullen about being interested in the NFL is basically the equivalent of a married man creating a profile on a dating app.

However, at the moment it seems more plausible that the NFL noise is an agent getting a raise for his client.

Mullen was working on an extension with the UAA before the Covid hit, then they put talks on hold because campus was being shut down. Now with the findings from the NCAA, I'm betting that all this did was stall the extension and give him another year. No NFL team wants to hire a dude that doesn't run an offense without a full route tree, and would put their $30+ million at risk for injury.

I dont think there is any known interest for Mullen from an NFL program nor am I saying it exists. The only thing that has has facts at the moment is Mullen (his people) floating interest to coach in the NFL and the timing of it getting floated out. Everything else on this subject is speculation. Im just saying it is probably most plausible that it is agent speak to get a raise.

I agree with that... what NFL team would want to run this offense that would expose their quarterback to injury, and be easy for NFL defensive schemes to take away the passing lanes.

he's kind of old. I expect him to retire.

saban however hires consultants often also. maybe we can look at something like that.

I seem to think of bureaucracy of our athletic department is such that those sort of things take a proposal then a meeting of the board and may or may not be included in next year or the year after's budget.
Probably the type of situation where you have to lead Strickland to the decision so he thinks it’s his idea.

Everyone of those years we probably were still like 6th best in the conference when it came to recruiting. He is better than Butter’s, but that ain’t saying much.

So can I log off this infernal site now and get back to work?

We've concluded Mullen may or may not get fired and he's unlikely to even get an interview for an NFL head coaching gig. And, with the exception of a few holdouts, we all want him and the entire staff, with the possible exception of Johnson, broomed out the door with him yesterday.

That about sum things up?

He's marginally better at best.

If I were a coach, I wouldn't be dropping UF from my schedule based on stellar talent.

Sounds about right. I'd keep Tim Brewster on staff too.

Billy G, David Turner, and Hev have been solid position coaches but they are not great recruiters. Take em or leave em.

Id be happy with just the defensive staff leaving for now.
