According to the article, he already interviewed for the USC head coaching job after Chimp was canned. Don't ever recall hearing about that.

Should there be quote marks around offensive coordinator? How much of the game to game planning and play calling was his doing?

If the answer is lots, then why would we let him get away? We may be dialing up a name like his if Mullen blows this popsicle stand.

If he's being offered friggin' head coaching jobs, outside of firing Mullen and promoting him what are you going to do? Should LSU not have let Joe Brady get away?

I can’t answer that without knowing how involved he was in our success. I’m premising it on Mullen leaving. As to your Brady question, no.

78, was the offense we saw under Kyle Trask ANYTHING like Mullen had done before? If NO, there's the answer to your question. I think Johnson had everything to do with our offense this year. Mullen's contributions (like running Trask up the middle on second down) only served to eff it up on occasion.

Interesting. Johnson was the quarterbacks coach at MSU during Dak’s rein. Didn’t know that.

Good for him.

I agree, we can't really know for sure how much input he had in our offense's game plans week over week, but I agree with Ox that some of Trask's development and the more vertical passing attack might have his fingerprints on it.

If all of these wild reports about CDM are true, I'd like to have Johnson around for stability for the next staff, or maybe as Mullen's replacement (though successfully running a major program at his stage of career development seems like a lot to ask).

Regardless, if he gets the Boisenberry gig and UF comes a callin' I'd have to believe we're the better job - assuming the buyout isn't outrageous.

Still, I'd bet pretty heavily CDM's not going anywhere. And for all of our legitimate complaints about the lazy hunchback, he does have a decent track record of coaching up QBs. So this is probably one assistant we can lose without too much damage to the offense. I guess.

I wish him well whatever happens. Seems like a good guy. And even if he had a large hand in the development of QB's and/or adding to the offensive scheme, does not automatically mean he will be a good HC. He may be, but as we have seen some people (not me) think Cousin Eddie is a premier play caller, but Cousin Eddie sux as a HC.
