Snowpiercer on HBO Max. Starring past-her-prime Jennifer Connely. This was a bad movie that they made into, I'll say, a better TV series. The concept is really stupid. The world has frozen over and the "Arc" is a train that circles the globe. I'm guessing the original book was written a very long time ago. The train has first class passengers who I must point out paid to have the train built. Second class passengers who paid but have less luxuries and 3rd class passengers who pay by servicing 1st and 2nd class. Then there are the stowaways (tailies) who barged on to the traain, contribute nothing, and are a drain on the rest of the train. Of course the deadbeats are the good guys and 1st class, that built the damn train, are the bad guys.
It's funny that they retcon the reason for the world freezing over. At first it's because nuclear war heated the planet, then scientists seeded the atmosphere to make it cold but over did it. Later in the season they claim good old fashion "climate change".
The Train was built by the reclusive Mr. Wolford who is worshiped by everyone on the train. We learn early that Mr. Wolford doesn't exist and that Jennifer Connely is the actual engineer of the train and has been running it all along. Most of the plot revolves around the "tailies" trying to take over the train which they eventually do but just like the dumb fcks in Portland they find out that you can't run a society without order.
All in all it turned out to be more interesting than I expected. Joe Bob says check it out.

Finished the DareDevil series on Netflix (I know it's been two years) and the series overall is very solid. I like the acting especially Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/DareDevil) and Vincent De'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin). In a slower burn than the Marvel movies and a lot more adult themed its a more gritty version of the universe. The other Marvel series had a hard time keeping my attention (and I stopped watching) and season two of this three season series was dragging comparative (Through Punisher actor John Bernthal is great). The acting of the other secondary characters is also a lot more solid in this series than the other ones. The world feels lived in and more grounded than the other Marvel series. Cox shows the duality and the toll it takes on a person as DareDevil. De'Onofrio is excellent and steals every scene he is in. The villian truly makes the series. This isn't Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones (outside the last two seasons), etc... but I also didn't expect it to be.

I'm starting this today - just finished all 5 seasons of Chuck. This will be my treadmill show for a few weeks. I've heard season one is great, but the rest is meh/blah.

It's probably already been mentioned, but the sixth and final season of Vikings was pretty good.

Don't know why they had to kill off a bunch of kids, though. Poor Torvi can't catch a break.

So i finished The Queen's Gambit last night around 3 am. Loved it. This morning I had to talk to a Ukrainian friend/colleague about work. We then talked about the show which led to talking about Bobby Fischer. The really interesting thing we talked about is how Tiger Woods was basically the "Bobby Fischer of Golf" in terms of how young they were, their approach to the game, and especially this: much like Tiger brought physical fitness/working out to the game of golf, due to the mental strain/length of matches involved in chess, Bobby Fischer started swimming for hours, boxing, and all kinds of other things to build mental and physical stamina for matches.

If you guys give me $100 Oxbucks, I'll post this in the Main Sports Forum just to start a schitstorm! ;)

The movie Searching for Bobby Fischer is on Netflix right now.

It’s funny that you mention Apple TV. I had forgotten that I even had Apple TV until last night, when I saw an ad for season 2 of a show called Servant and decided to check it out. My wife and I watched the first two episodes of season 1. I haven’t checked this thread in who knows how long, but I did this morning to mention the show. If you like creepy, psychological thrillers, then this show has promise.

Started off as a graphic novel, which had really more life than the movie. The problem with turning things like graphic novels into movies is the time constraint. Watchmen which was a very self contained graphic novel didn't get the full effect unless you watch the 4 hour version. V for Vendetta, Snowpiercer, etc... just don't fit into the 2-3 hours they try to force a movie into.

Apple TV or Apple TV+?

Most anything I've seen on AppleTV+ is SJW agenda programing.
And I've heard there's been a mass exodus in subscription cancellations after a few months.

Sorry, we have both but the new ipad came with a year subscription to AppleTV+ . I've watched The Morning Show. It resembled the Matt Lauer story. Having a hard time finding anything interesting on it otherwise. Wouldn't recommend it to you guys.

Didn't read the book, but Atomic Blonde worked for me

I haven't read Atomic Blonde, but enjoyed the movie. 300 is another that worked, but it was a short one and fit the style of the director (who worked on the book).
I really like the movie (and love the soundtrack)... I've probably seen Atomic Blonde 7 or 8 times now, just broke down and bought The Coldest City for my Kindle.

Ted Lasso. Pretty entertaining. About a championship division II football coach who moves to England to coach a Premier League soccer team. Chaos ensues....not really, but still fun.
Besides that and Servant...nothing else was really appealing to me on Apple TV.

Thanks, I'll check them out. It was a much smaller selection than what I had expected. Certainly wouldn't have paid for the service. There's no way it can compete with the other video platforms.

Yes, the selection is small. And I hate how they show you a program or movie that you think is available.....only to "link" you to another service that you have to pay for to see. I think Amazon Prime does that too. Annoying.

That was deceptive. I thought the availability was spectacular at first only to find out they weren't available.

Almost done w/ season 1, pretty good show. I'm disappointed to hear season 2 sucks. That's how I felt about Goliath (w/ Billy Bob - season 1 was great, the other two seasons not so much).

Yellowstone is the best show out there but I’m very angry with them. Stern letter to follow to the writers.
