"When we challenge people these days, they all get offended because they’ve been challenged. … They want what the next person has, but they’re not willing to go through what that person went through to get it. People are looking for shortcuts," Smith explained.

Boy, ain't THAT the truth.

If only Emmitt had stayed one more year, he may have won the Heisman in Spurriers offense.

I think Emmitt did it the right way. Hard work and, he left his “boys” back in Pensacola and that lifestyle with it.

He was a fantastic game breaking RB that played on some of the worst Gator teams in history. He played in a Florida Football era when DEFENSE ruled the SEC.

Although I always felt Galen Hall was a decent coach that was totally screwed by the NCAA, the SEC and The University, he was not an offensive mastermind. Emmitt would have flourished under SOS.

Emmitt's comments are dead on point. Like many here said, he needed to call out the poor coaching as well.
Back when I had a day job I had to deal with employees who thought they could be successful with out putting in the work.
One of my favorite responses was that you think you were born on third base. Ready to score without putting in any of the effort to get there. Unfortunately in talking to my kids who are now managing people, this same entitlement attitude exists throughout business. No surprise that the elite level athletes want take the same short cuts. The kids need to buy into wanting to be coached, and the coaches and leaders need to respond. Emmitt is right to use Saban and Bama as the standard for us. Not convinced that we have the coaching talent to get there.

the rat knows wtf he is talking about............certainly best running back ever. Plays in the SOS offense one year and averages about 8 yards a carry or better. They knew he was coming and he still ran like he stole it..........

“ he still ran like he stole it..........”
Ouch.. oh damn Coach that is some racist shyt you are shoveling. Would you say that about a white running back? Shame shame shame

That's Emmitt being politically correct. What he really meant was many of todays players have a little Puss in them.
I still say the he's the best Football player to ever wear a Fl. uniform build the Man a Goddamn Statue!

If we did he would probably never bother to even see it unless ESPN accompanied him.

He's right about the culture being oversensitive.

He talked admiringly of Jalen Hurts who transferred to Oklahoma. Would have been nice if he had said something about Kyle Trask who did not transfer and played against Oklahoma when others sat out.

ES never misses an opportunity to throw shade at UF. He wishes he had taken the Auburn cash and went 3 hours up the road.

FTR, I played against both him and Dexter in HS. ES was slow and a finesse runner. A slower Barry Sanders just had a low center and could shake you out of your cleats.

He wasnt hard like Dexter. Dexter tried to murder you.

I was waiting for someone to say this.

While I really liked the article and agree with everything he said regarding today's pussified generation, this was the one thing that bothered me.

A Gator mentions a 'Bama guy who transferred vs. a Gator who stuck it out and put up Heisman numbers his senior year. You wanna talk about mental toughness and character, Emmitt? Look no further than your own damn alma mater.

No wonder so many Gators think he hates his own university. I can't say I blame 'em.

Emmitt makes it very easy to believe that he hates his alma mater.

He also ripped Hevesy, which I completely agree with.

I think in order for the University of Florida to really get to where we want to go, we have to build that mental toughness with our front-5 offensively, and our front-7 defensively, in order to compete and contend with the Alabamas of the world.
