I'm late to the party but I've been watching Mr. Robot on Amazon. With discount Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) and discount Jack Nicholson (Christian Slater). It's a mind fck and three seasons in I'm not sure what's going on. Discount Freddy Mercury is a hacker who is absolutely crazy so you don't know what's real, in his head, or both real AND in his head. He schemes with others to to take down E"vil" Corp. Along the way there are lots of players including the highest political power brokers in the US and Chinese governments. It's also shot in a way that unsettles the audience. Some characters are rarely center screen and our often not only on the edge of the screen but looking to the short side of the screen. It's a subconsciously unsettling feeling. I'm not too in line with the politics which has that whole "Occupy Wall Street" vibe. But as we get into season three discount Freddy Mercury is realizing that anarchy is maybe not a good thing. We will see how that plays out. Joe Bob says check it out.
Unlike almost every other hacker movie/show, there are a TON of real infosec references. Apps, data exfil, usb malware, reverse shells, rubber duckies, wifi pinapple, China infiltration, data deletion, UPS firmware wiping, etc...all are legit. Funniest is the “I’m Dave Kennedy, I work with Craig on the Q4 push.” (
). Dave is totally legit, industry respected, hacker.
must be watched multiple times to get all the little nuances.
