Does anyone else think Heupel looks a little bit like Tinker from Roadhouse?

There has to be a point in time in your life where you look at yourself in the mirror and say, "I need to do something about this." That time came and went for Heupel. The guy was the runner-up for the 2000 Heisman and a 1st team AP All-American, for crying out loud. Get on a treadmill, cut your portions, eat low carb....do something! He's on his way to being the next Jarrod Lorenzen.

Still cheaper than the sinkhole that would've developed on campus if both Hueppel and Chaney were ever within a one-block radius of each other. Don't be so shortsighted.

This is similar to us pulling the sh*tty OL's offer a few days ago, but this kids coach is speaking out:

3-star, ranked in the top 500 by 247:

Roc Taylor, Oxford, Wide Receiver

‘Bush league:’ Oxford coach says new Tennessee staff pulled WR Roc Taylor’s offer 1 day before NSD

‘Bush league:’ Oxford coach says new Tennessee staff pulled WR Roc Taylor’s offer 1 day before NSD

The new coaching staff at the University of Tennessee called Oxford High School coach Keith Etheredge on Tuesday – one day before National Signing Day – and pulled an offer from longtime Vol wide receiver commit Roc Taylor.

“That is bush league,” Etheredge told AL.com. “It’s just really crappy because Roc has been nothing but loyal to them.”

Etheredge said the Tennessee staffer who called him – he didn’t get his name in his anger over the situation, but said it wasn’t head coach Josh Heupel – told Etheredge that Taylor could tell people he de-committed if he wanted to handle it that way.

“I said, ‘No way. This is on you. This isn’t on Roc,’” Etheredge said.

Taylor committed to Jeremy Pruitt’s staff in April despite a heavy push by other SEC schools. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior didn’t sign during the early period but also didn’t waver on his commitment to the Vols following Pruitt’s firing last month.

“It’s such a frustrating situation,” Etheredge said. “When kids do the right thing and then coaches come in and do something like this to a kid … unbelievable. Some coaches get mad when a kid changes his mind at the last second. Well, it’s hard to hold a kid accountable for something you are not willing to be accountable for yourself.”

Etheredge said he still has not heard directly from Heupel. Alex Golesh talked with Taylor following the call Etheredge received. Taylor said Golesh told him Tennessee was afraid he would not be eligible if they signed him. Etheredge, however, said Taylor is well on track to quality and will be eligible.

Tennessee has not officially named Heupel’s staff yet. Golesh was co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach for Heupel at UCF.

“I know there are kids out there who play games with schools and are on social media all the time and all of that,” Etheredge said. “Roc is not that guy. This kid shut down his recruiting as soon as he committed, and he had plenty of people trying to flip him. He’s had 3-4 SEC schools come after him. I had coaches from other schools calling me and telling me what a dumpster fire Tennessee was, and still, Roc was a man. He wanted to be true to his commitment. Then, to do this the day before signing day, wow.”

Etheredge said it took him trying to get in touch with the Tennessee staff to get Taylor’s letter-of-intent for someone to finally contact him.

“I just told them that Tennessee is to never come on our campus wherever I am,” Etheredge said. “They’ve got no shot at any kid I will coach. They’ve offered (2022 DB) Tre’Quon Fegans. They’ve offered (2023 OL) Bradyn Joiner. That orange has me seeing red.

“Let’s be honest. Roc Taylor can play at Tennessee. Anyone who has watched his film knows that. It’s a black eye for them. However many games they play next year – whether it is 11 or 12 or however many – I’ll be wearing the opposite jersey. My loyalty is to my kids. I’m going to do everything I can to protect them.”

Etheredge said this is the first time in his coaching career a school has ever taken an offer back from a student-athlete the day before signing day. The Oxford coach has already received some calls from other schools on Taylor.

“He’s just weighing his options right now,” Etheredge said. “We should know something by later this evening. He will be on a full ride and someone will get a great player and a great young man. The Lord works in mysterious ways. This was part of His plan and whatever His plan is will be divine. I just hate this happened to a kid who was so loyal the whole time.”

Taylor is currently the No. 15 senior recruit in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings. He was No. 9 on AL.com’s updated A-List of top seniors. He finished his senior season with 52 receptions for 1,014 yards and 17 touchdowns – an average of 19.5 yards per catch. He also graded out 93 percent blocking.

Etheredge said Taylor still plans on signing somewhere Wednesday. Indiana, UAB, Jacksonville State and South Florida are among the schools that had been in touch with him Tuesday.

That's going to leave a mark.
