At the risk of coming across as homerish or overly optimistic, I believe Emory Jones will have a huge season as a first time starter. I think defenses have to respect his running ability, as he will no longer be a situational quarterback, which should open up favorable matchups to exploit in the passing game as well. I came across this video from a while back, but it illustrates why we could see the entire running game take off with Emory running the show this year. Mullen has clearly proven to be a more dynamic playcaller with a DT QB. How do you guys see him playing in 2021?

8-4

edit maybe 7-5

It's hard to really see 4 or 5 losses on schedule with all the teams we play being dumpster fires, but Dandy Dan always loses 2-3 that he shouldn't.

Does it really matter with Grunt hum running the D? Scored basically 40 a game (39.8 to be specific) and still lost 4?

This thread isn't about our record, as defense continues to be the biggest question mark on the team until proven otherwise. The question is: how do you see Emory performing when given full reign of the offense? He's only been a situational change of pace QB up until now.

Jones will find himself sandwiched between a passer and a passing fullback. That’s life in the Mullen lane.

The following is based on a 12 game schedule and doesn’t include any potential bowl game or SECCG.

64%
2800 yards
20TD

550 rushing
7TD

Expect the offense to be around 430 YPG or so .
I expect us to have 3 or 4 guys with roughly 500 on the ground . I don’t want to see Davis taking carries over Wright or Bowman but am anticipating just that .Same with sorry Moon eating into snaps for Bogle on D.

Emory is much better than the majority of the board gives him credit for . The only concern I have on O is the right side of the line . I expect poor safety play but hard to imagine it being much worse than last season . Grantham is good for at least One bust a game in league play. We have some good players on defense but as a whole the talent isn’t optimized because fat Todd is a pinhead . A very stubborn pinhead they never learns from mistakes .

Right now I can only have "wishful thinking" about our EJ-led team. He seems pretty OK as a runner.? But will he just be another RB that defenses clamp down on? and we got nothing.??

I really have no idea how EJ will do. In mop up duty the last few years he has looked very unimpressive. 8-4 is par for the course for Mullen I would say this season again. Gonna take a miracle on Defense to get us to 10 or 11 wins like in Mullen's stellar first 2 seasons at UF(he was supposedly only a 7-5 coach EVERY year I was told). I guess I am cautiously optimistic so we will see.

My thoughts as well. We are definitely a “what we last saw” society and he wasn’t very good in his Cotton Bowl moments. Honestly, it may be the worst he’s looked in his three years. Though I doubts it’s coincidence that it was Trask’s worst game as well. The whole night was a mess. But when he stepped in against Lsu and Aub last year, and in other settings, he’s been fine. A full offseason with #1 reps and he’ll be really good. The only reason he fails is if he feels pressure from AR and can’t handle it mentally, which I’m hoping isn’t the case. But he will be pushed without a doubt.

And I’ll take heat for this, but I think the defense will be markedly better as well. I don’t like Grantham, think his “small” scheme upfront is ridiculous, and agree he’ll blow some key moments this year. But last season was unique and looked nothing like the first two years. I expect 2021 to look more like those seasons than the last.

I like our QB situation. I think Mullen has several of HIS style QBs to work with.

That said...

Grantham sucks out loud!

We’re apparently the first to know he sucks or the last to know he doesn’t.

You be the judge.

Google: College football’s best defensive coordinators. You’ll be unpleasantly surprised. The media loves this guy.

I'm not judging the players based on the cotton bowl. They only practiced three times, and Mullen said repeatedly the game did not matter. The players were failed by their coaches, plain and simple.

I think Jones will play well enough, and may break the school record for most rushing yards in a season by a QB. But I don't see this offense scoring as many points because we will run the ball 60% of the time and kill more clock.
