Sully made a huge mistake. From what I watched over the years Sully coddles pitchers, bringing them "along" sometimes to the detriment of a win. He thought it was best for the pitcher (with a 3 run lead) to let him work his problems out in a big game thinking dividends down the road. BACKFIRE!
Great idea if it works. When it doesn't work, what happens to the pitchers confidence.

Obviously a rough start to the season and our first series loss to Miami since 2009 - wow. Sully has owned FSU and Miami up until now but the way things look after this series, it might be a LONG year. When was the last time the top 3 major sports all had head coaching openings in the same year or 2-3 year span? Cause right now its looking like Mullen, White, and Sully will all be gone within the next few years. All 3 just don't have what it takes to win here at UF. Sully got the one Chip and all the CWS appearances but not much else.

Lol dude... Okay I'm all about Mike White and Mullen being questioned but good lord... Sully always does a bunch of experimenting until SEC play starts... We were up BIG going into the 9th inning in both of these games. If we were playing in a regional or super regional Sullivan absolutely wouldn't have kept in either one of the pitchers in the first two games for as long as he did. Sully's goal is much more long-term. He doesn't take any of these early season out of conference regular season games as seriously as any of us do. Rival or not he knows that there are 50 more games to be played and that in the big picture he needs to know what we need to do to get back to Omaha. trust me he isn't going to forget what happened in this first series and that he's going to make adjustments. If we lose to Miami like this in the actual regionals or super regionals I'll be the first one here calling for his head because the calls to keep pitchers in were absolutely horrible but I think he feels like he has to see what they're going to do in situations like this before the actual serious games begin.

these are glorified scrimmages we're going to be one of the best teams in the nation at the end of the year we're going to have home field advantage for regionals and probably super regionals too... Let's at least wait until the end of the season or halfway even before calling our coach a failure. It's freaking baseball and even the worst team can beat the best team on any given night.

I bet you if we played again next weekend. Vegas would still be betting on us. Let's wait and chill in the meantime

Maybe Sully should be quarantined from the speaking to the basketball coach. At least wear ear plugs when around him during this uncertain time.

You are pretty much spot on. The pre-conference season is a trial and tune up. Sully's goal is to make it to Omaha and make a good run there. As angry as I am at this weekends results, I have learned over the years that it is a long season and how you finish is all that matters.

Thank you for giving I, the wife of the greatest baseball coach of all time, such a warm welcome. May your house be infested with fleas, donkeys, antifa, and qanoners.

You Sully nutswingers are hilarious. A "tune up". You're really trying to tell us he wouldn't have done the EXACT SAME THING if we had been playing that game in Omaha at the end of the season? He's proven time and time again he has absolutely no clue how to handle pitchers or really how to manage a baseball game at all. He recruits great players; he can't manage them a lick.

But hey, at least Puk is fresh.

Yes I'm telling you that's what he's doing. He does it every year. It used to piss me off too, until I noticed that he stops doing it in sec play during the postseason.

I'm not saying I agree with the way he does it... But that is absolutely what he does every year and it is part of his plan.

Let me ask you this, if our football team won 2 out of the 3 sec championships in the last 3 years, and also had a national championship during that time, would you think the coach was bad?

My opinion of Sullivan is based off championships, not my feelings after one 3 game series. Same goes for any coach in any sport.

To begin with, I am not a nut swinger and you need to take a powder. I am not defending his coaching, in fact I often disagree with his coaching decisions. I also think Sully's teams have lacked grit and toughness. I am just describing what I have observed since day one of his tenure. I have no trouble with replacing him as soon as we can identify another coach that is guaranteed to recruit well and get us to Omaha more often than he has. However, compare his record to every other baseball coach and you may find that he is the best available at this time. Unless of course you want to start a revolving door and get a new coach every three years. Based on a cursory review of college baseball for the past 100 years it is certain that replacing baseball coaches is not a slam dunk.

Okay, so his M.O. is to permanently destroy the confidence of young pitchers early in the season by leaving them out there to completely melt down and blow games?

Like I said, I don't really agree with it. But he does it every year, and we have a national title and 2 sec titles in the last 3 years. Once we stop winning championships I'll start jumping down his throat. Meyer did some things with clock management and on offense and other things that I didn't really like, but he was obviously an elite coach regardless. We are considered to be the top one or two program in the country currently. Sully is going nowhere.
