Well that ruined that joke..........

The joke is that w gave a LS a scholarship.....and he wasn't even ranked #1 - and the #1 ranked LS was committed to FSU as a walk-on, and now is a walk-on at Oklahoma (but we used a scholarship on a LS).

I don't find jokes that mock us nearly as amusing as jokes that mock the nulls.

FSU had a long-snapper committed....he flipped to Oklahoma. lol

He said that Oklahoma said they'd put him on scholarship sooner than FSU was planning to.
But was he a 6*?

FSU swept by Pitt, first time since 2017 FSU baseball swept by an ACC opponent - and this was at home. FSU falls out of the top 25 w/ a 2-4 record, 0-3 in ACC:

Apparently there's a fight in Tallahassee about keeping/doing away with the name "Doak Campbell" on their stadium:

Florida State panel rejects recommendation to keep Doak Campbell's name on stadium
One panelist said she did not want to "single out (Campbell) because of what he didn’t do."

FSU panel rejects keeping Doak Campbell name on football stadium

ollowing a lengthy and emotional discussion, a panel of Florida State's University anti-racism task force Wednesday voted against keeping Doak S. Campbell’s name on Florida State’s football stadium.

Members of the Historical Legacy Subcommittee voted 6-2 to reject a recommendation by FSU history professor and subcommittee chair Maxine Jones to keep the name. Campbell was president of Florida State in 1941-57.

But the debate doesn’t end there.

The panel will continue discussing the naming issue at its next meeting; a final recommendation has to be approved by the full 30-member President’s Task Force on Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion.

Campbell’s legacy came into question last year when former FSU linebacker Kendrick Scott created a petition to remove Campbell’s name because of what Scott perceived to be his pro-segregation stance as president.

Wednesday afternoon's discussion focused on the political environment Campbell operated in. He was the first president of FSU and the third president of its predecessor, the Florida State College for Women.

He's credited with leading the transition from a women's college, raising the university’s academic profile and leading athletics from its former site at Centennial Field to a new stadium on campus. It was named after him in 1950.

At its previous meeting, Jones discussed with committee members Campbell’s tenure, including issues that today are considered racially insensitive, such as keeping the campus segregated and banning FAMU students from on-campus activities.

Despite that history, she said she didn’t find documented evidence that Campbell was an outward racist, but rather a president following the rules of the day, including those from the then-Board of Control, who oversaw state universities.

For instance, Campbell backed the expulsion of FSU graduate student John Boardman for going against campus rules in 1957 and bringing three FAMU students to a Christmas party on campus.

He also discouraged FSU students from getting involved in social protests by FAMU students at the time, and there were no black students on campus.

But Jones also pointed out Campbell was supportive of Florida A&M University and had good relationships with its presidents, William Gray and George Gore. He also was appointed by Gov. LeRoy Collins to serve on a race relations advisory committee.

Jones said the segregated political climate at the time extended from the Governor’s Office to the Board of Control to politicians. He protected his governance over Florida State just as FAMU presidents protected theirs.

“To single out one person because of what he didn’t do, (and) I’m not sure what we expected him to do, even though based on the research I’ve done, he also worked behind the scenes (to address race relations)," Jones said. "I don’t see how we can cherry pick and say that he didn’t do enough.”

Referring to Collins, once a part of the segregated political environment he later denounced, Jones added: “I would argue that Doak Campbell probably played a role in LeRoy Collins’s evolvement on segregation.”

“I don’t know why Collins gets a pass and Doak Campbell doesn’t,” she said. “I think for us to nitpick and say he supported a (segregationist) system, then we need to remove every name on every building, not just on campus, but downtown as well.”

Miles Feacher, a recent FSU graduate and staunch advocate of addressing race and inequity on campus, said his concern is having Campbell’s name affiliated with a football program legendary for its Black players.

“I think there is something ironically cruel about a majority-Black athletic team performing and bringing in money to the institution under the name of someone who upheld a system where they would never have even played one game,” he said.

In the end, Jones and Seminoles basketball player Malik Osborne were the only votes in favor of the recommendation to retain the name.

Osborne, now in Indianapolis for the NCAA tournament, relayed through FSU staff that based on the presented historical records presented by Jones, he found “a lack of racist actions.”

He also pointed out that he saw “multiple examples of support of students, including students at FAMU, and the FAMU president,” during Jones’ earlier presentation on Campbell.

Stacey Hardin, a teaching faculty member in Special Education, offered an alternative recommendation: To remove Campbell's name and replace it with one "that is inclusive and highlights the work completed by African American and/or Native American people.”

The committee decided against taking immediate action on that motion.

Text of the rejected recommendation:
"We recommend that the football stadium on the campus of Florida State University maintain the name Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

"Doak S. Campbell, the first president of FSU, deserves recognition for his guidance of FSCW during its transition to Florida State University and for his leadership and poise during the initial stage of a tumultuous transitional period in the state’s history."

Deion was always a sh!tty tackler.

I remember being at a nulls game in ‘87 with my boss (hey..free tickets and some brownie points), Deion baited the QB by lagging behind the WR and then put on an incredible burst of speed at the last second for an INT.
Sh*tty tackler, but that was one fast dude.
