Mrs. Nalt has 5 cats...inside. I HATE. CATS. There are also a couple or three that live and stay outside that she feeds. Our last dog had to be put down almost 9 years ago. He was a really great dog, 1/2 pit-bull and 1/2 Shar Pei. Unfortunately, he led a lonely life for the 12 years we had him. That is all you need to know about him. Suffice it to say, I will NEVER have another dog that is kept on a chain. My next dog I get will not be until after I have purchased and installed an underground fence for it to roam freely around the house. Oh, and I WILL NOT have a dog inside the house. I also won't have no little "yapper" dog, i.e. lap dog either.

Our Spaniel mix. Incredible dog. Loves me too, but don’t let the pic fool you. He’s obsessed with my wife, so this is a rarity. Even sleeps in her spot after she gets up.

Shared story...

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letterbox at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page were the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I'm easy to find. I am wherever there is love.

Love, God

Put down my girl on Wednesday, she made it to 15. She was the first purchase when starting my career at my current company. House has been too quiet the last couple of days.

That's tough Dougie. At 15 she had a great life, leaves a big hole to fill.

Our “hound we found at the pound” Maggie.

Actually we got her at the pet smart adoptions, and learned something: the people who do those pets smart adoptions are for profit. They go and pick up the shelter dogs, take them to the store and sell the dogs for a profit. They are super shady, and didn’t realize their scam til we tried to get her the second round of shots.

still the best $200 ever spent 4099BE51-029A-4136-B4AE-36AF5F3AE27D.jpeg

That’s sad. The heartbreak almost makes owning a dog not worth it. But, you obviously gave that dog a GREAT life, and the dog did the same for you.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Doug. As Cooter said, that leaves a big hole in your heart that takes a long time to heal.

"Can't you see I'm asleep?"

@NVGator - hows Hop-a-long?
It’s been 6 weeks since right leg was done. He goes tomorrow for x-rays in the morning. If it’s good to go, then they’ll keep him and do the left leg. Think it’s going to be good to go. He’s been getting around pretty good.
