The two SEC basketball powerhouses decided to cancel their Spring football game.

Oh ... wait ...

Has there ever been less interest in Gator football?

Not in my lifetime.

Felt pretty blah in the late 80s, in 2004 and 2014. But yes, this may be the least amount of excitement I’ve seen going into a season. And the worst part about it, it really shouldn’t be. Last season had some fun moments and things you could point to for optimism. Even Atlanta was the best performance we’ve seen there since 2008. But while some were already negative and had bailed on Mullen, many hadn’t until the Lsu game. Even the bowl debacle is a distant second. I swear they will write books about that foggy night.

Bullshyt. At least we have a mystery as to Emory Jones to some extent, even if we have expectations. Plus, the defense can't be worse and the offense may have fresh blood in Lingard and Bowman.

Ok, is this in the range of the bottom 4-5, sure. But I'd posit it is no worse than 2017 (with a returning Luke Del Rio or Malik Zaire); 2016 (Del Rio and Appleby); 2014 (Muschamp, Roper, and Treon/Driskel combo); 2013 (Muschamp, Pease and Driskel - only offset by a blah 2012 good record, boring season); 2004 (Zook and a pretty decent Roster, but just knowing by then we were awaiting the hopefully soon end of an abysmal season to come).

Aside - Even 1998, at the time, felt unexciting because Dougie was coming back and for the first time in 6 or more years, it didn't feel like Spurrier had a team that could compete for a title. Boy, looking back were those actually pretty good times.

It shouldn't? I guess that's true if we are willing to acknowledge that we have officially become only slightly better than UToothless, pointing to this year's moral victories as reason for optimism that next year we might also have some more "almost good" moments.

Should we be content to just buy what Mullinz is selling, that we shouldn't see 4 loses, we should see that we are only x points away from all world, and that no one would be an upgrade at DC over choking dwag because he already schooled our dumasses that it's the players, not the coaches? What do you expect, Mullin to admit he made a mistake by bringing the filthy dwag to UF? Impossible since Mullin doesn't make mistakes, you can see his post-game pressers for proof of that.

So bottom line I guess is the sooner we accept that there is no chance of winning any championships because no one can win at cowbell....I mean UF anymore, then what's not to be optimistic about?

I'm in SECGator's cruise line. EJ is a mystery because Mullen played him that way. What I remember of EJ is that the opposition defense played him to run and he "skipped" through tacklers for 5 yard+ gains. His passing was inadequate only because we had a potential Heisman throwing passes. We have untested RBs that just could surpass last year's rushing game (I like Malik, Wright, & Pierce). Got plenty of fast tall WRs & tuff to cover TEs who can block.

I bet our defensive players will have that stuff'em drive with chips on their shoulders. (Hell, I hope I watch with a chip on my shoulders.) We might have a decent defense that's indecent. I wait to see what comes true.

Yeah, I got it the first time. But, as to the Spring interest level, cause "we talkin bout Spring, Spring. We talkin bout Spring. In a Spring practice thread. We talkin bout Spring. Spring man" is what I was referring to. The years I referenced (04, 13, 14, 16 & 17) also had low expectations, boring teams, lack of high hopes, and mediocre recruiting momentum.

the problem is that EJ hasn’t looked particularly good in the spring. Now, they don’t really do any QB running place in the spring, which is his strength, but this is a concern.

I haven't seen much from either QB and only heard what yall say here so its sounds like our QBs aren't looking very good and a possible 4-8 record is looking more plausible now.

I think everyone is saying we are going to be 7-5 to 9-3 with a finish inside the top 15 and another honorable mention bowl game. Not sure what you are talking about with the whole 4-8 crap.

Yeah interest is low but I think there’s a plethora of reasons as to why that is. I think this team will have more potential than some of our previous iterations. Not having a spring game pretty much killed any interest from casual fans. Our only insight to camp has been tracking down tweets from across the web. I’m sure you and I don’t mind it. But most people aren’t that invested. I imagine interest will ramp up tremendously once fall camp comes around.

Will interest rise in the fall of course, will it be as high as the 2018/2019 seasons. No, the chatter isn't there. The offseason chatter isn't there. This was a year in which this staff needed a Spring Game, they needed that buzz.

COVID is a shanked punt on football fever. When "things" get better fan fervor will rise. These 2021-2022 Gators have so much up in the air it loop-de-loops us in confusion. But even the first game could get us bragging rights.

It feels like the 80's to me: "wait til next year". It's the feeling that we know we're not winning anything of significance. Like the 80's, all we hoped for was beating UGA and an outside shot at winning the SEC.....and hoping to give the "big boys" a good game. When Alabama rolls our asses in September, it'll be 'let's just hope we can beat UGA'....then when UGA rolls our ass, it'll be "well, hopefully FSU doesn't beat us too". smh In the words of Randy "Macho Man" Savage - "It izzzz.....what it izzzzzzz-a!!"

Late 80s my interest was seriously slowing. Emmit was THE only spark that kept me quasi interested. I'm there again. Mullen/Strickland... tired of it.

UF canceling the Spring game ... AGAIN... is like spitting in the faces off all the die-hard football fans. Athletic Dept can kiss my rear-end.

Well, aside from the fact that last season ended up laying several big turds, they've done just about all they can do to suck interest from spring practice, and college football in general to a large degree. I remember growing up, I couldn't wait for spring practice to start. You'd get almost daily coach interviews and depending on who the coach was at the time, even attend practice if you wanted to. Then, you had spring games. While spring games weren't always interesting, they were a fun event to at least tune into. You could at least say you watched your team do SOMETHING. In fact, one of the first times my eventual wife and I ever hung out was at the 2010 spring game. Afterwards we went barhopping. It was a lot of fun. What the **** do you have to look forward to as a UF student now? No gator growl, no spring games, can't take a leak without wearing a mask. It's bleak.
