every Shorter catch involves him having a cornerback or linebacker draped all over him.Shorter had a few great catches last season. If his big frame can make some catches I can forgive a slower 40.
ACL? I forget. sometimes those take 2 years to REALLY be back. it's easy to like his game but he had a kind of a special mojo with Trash. I hope he has the same thing with EJ but I haven't seen it when EJ was on the field.Plus, Whittemore should be back to full speed. Kid looked good before injury despite being like 8th on the depth chart.
Where you been? We thought you was dead. (Or maybe turned into a toad.)Shorter had a few great catches last season. If his big frame can make some catches I can forgive a slower 40. He has been part of the revolution.Where you been? We thought you was dead. (Or maybe turned into a toad.)
If you play 220 pound "Ends" vs a 320-340lb SEC OT, he is going to get destroyed almost every running play, period. I dont gice damn how much S&C you have. Those OTs have S&C too.I got no issues with Savage nor the job he is doing. I dont think us getting pushed around nor getting physically beat was a direct reflection on Savage as much as it is on recruiting and coaching.

Week 3 might tell us something.
With Mullinz, UK is always dangerous. He is one FF injury away from being 1-2 or 0-3Good point. LSU is my reflexive thought - most years it’s the first big game since Ut folded.
And thats my point. Seems like some here throwing Savage some shade but in honesty he has done a pretty good job of putting lipstick on the pigs. Unless your doping and getting around tests, there isn't a whole lot of rocket science involved with the S&C of a football team. Our team has been for the most part very healthy and in shape. Butter years we faded big time in the 2nd half of all our games. We haven't done that since then and actually look better (in shape) late in games.
Our problem is defensive scheme and recruiting. At this point, if Savage was given a bigger team with some nutritionists I think he would be able to do a better job but other than that I don't think he really can do much more than he is doing.
I disagree. it's still on recruiting. if you see some guy the size of Moon you know he's never going to fill out to defensive end size. Most of our Rush ends are just too damn skinny to ever play defensive line in the SEC. these 210 lb skinnies are never going to get to 300 ish lbs.I'd say Savage has done the job that is expected of an SEC S&C coach. When he was hired at UF he had 1+ years at MSU as a head S&C coach. These guys are basically using the same techniques, go to the same clinics, share ideas, etc. The job is about motivation mostly. I'd like to see some of our guys put on more weight, but that's probably more on the nutrition staff.

Alabama will line up at 312, 305, and 295 according to this: Will Anderson Jr. | Alabama | Scouting Report
That is what an SEC DL (and future pro) DL looks like.
BTW the next three are 295, 320, and 326. Their backup NT, Tim Smith, would be the best guy on our defensive line.
They sign one flyweight a class maybe. we were 12 deep, and I think we're 10 deep now. And they dont play them as a hand in the dirt DE.Well, Alabama does sign smaller WDE's/Buck/Rush ends out of HS, they seem to add the needed weight. Keanu Koht is listed at 215 (from their 2021 class), from their 2020 class they signed a 220lb'er..
Just to stay in the vein of "student athletes", the NCAA should prohibit any player from participating that exceeds the maximum recommended weight as defined by the Metropolitan Life Tables. That rule would fix so many things wrong with college sports. Just an example: a 74' tall 21 year old could not weigh more that 178 pounds. https://somepomed.org/articulos/contents/mobipreview.htm?8/44/8905I disagree. it's still on recruiting. if you see some guy the size of Moon you know he's never going to fill out to defensive end size. Now that's what I'm talking about. Send that link to Dr. Fuchs. Bet there aren't even scholies involved. Win Win Win for the UAA, UF, and students.

And I would bet the life changing injuries are rare too. Just so everyone knows, the sarcasm flag in full view. But there is room to talk about physical limits on college athletes, particularly football players. God didn't design our bodies for the mayhem inflected by a 320 pound DT running at full speed into anyone or even the stress on his body caused by getting there.A friend of mine from the fire department had a son who played it at the Naval Academy. He's usually around 200lbs and had to get down to 178 (to 183 - they raise the weight as the season goes on, like wrestling). I never watched a game, but I imagine it's pretty good (but different).
