... this is how Zamfir (Master of the Pan Flute) and Slim Whitman sold so many records.

great article:

https://tedium.co/2020/01/09/heartland-music-direct-tv-marketing-history/

Quote from Zamfir (words to live by for our youth):

“I think rock music is very bad for young people, for everybody,” Zamfir said in an interview with the Associated Press in 1985. “I’m absolutely sure if I listen to two hours of rock music I’m not in my best appetite, don’t sleep well and can’t create something valuable. I think it is very important that humanity live a quiet life.”

I felt this way about Gator football after the LSU game last year too.

And who can forget Anne Murray and Conway Twitty selling their records as well?
I sure can't...

My mom had a CD of Roger Whitaker’s “Greatest Hits.” She played it all the time to the point where I actually know the words to “King of the Road.”

You know... he's sold over 24 million records worldwide

Any my favorite of his (this actually is a beautiful song):

“He’s a very appealing-looking person and resembles [the popular French-Armenian singer] Charles Aznavour, so that’s what the spot had to capture,” Bernhard explained.

Well, no sh!t. You can’t expect to succeed without capturing the Charles Aznavour demographic!

For my money, though, Freedom Rock will always hold a special place in my heart.

A great list to be sure, but I always thought this song could have used some improvement. More cowbell maybe?

For those of us that grew up in the South - WTCG out of Atlanta provided a lot of the after school reruns of various shows, and of course all of the Atlanta sports.
Here's Bill Tush for those that remember, plus... great acting by James Tiberius Kirk at the front and back end (not overly dramatic at all) along with ..
The Oak Ridge Boys!

I woke up many Saturday mornings as a kid to the record player downstairs blasting Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Bros, Willie, Waylon, Don Williams and Dolly. Annoyed at the time but they’ve grown into fond memories.

This is the one I hated the most. The soft lens, the candelabras, the phony British dick with the stick up his ass. Oh, and look, you can get all 150 of these super annoying compositions on 8-track too so you can blare this crap out of your car window while you're cruising the beach. Ugh:
