@soflagator and @Frozen Gator ...no food poisoning nor quarantine required. All the staff were masked up, so naturally I strode in unmasked, full Gator swagger on display, kinda like...

...My message was this: “Feed me, then stand back. I’m unvaccinated!” The Dawg untermenschen, like most college-age liberals, were sore afraid. “How is this old bastard, defiant in the face of science, still alive?” they seemed to wonder. Clean living, frequent libations, and common sense is my story...and I’m sticking to it.

I had a Gator shirt on every time I went there. Always made a point of wearing Gator shirt or jacket when I had to go to Athens. I was fortunate that most of those years we were kicking their ass. I miss those days.

Friday night at the house by myself. Went back in time for one of my grandmama’s dishes...

D49E2094-FC9D-4387-8200-545C789DCAF4.jpeg

Okra and tomatoes. Sauté some onion in bacon renderings, add the okra and cook til it softens, losing the bright green color, then add a can of tomatoes. S&P to taste.

Serve it over rice (make sure you’ve got some pot likker in there) and you’ve got some good Southern eatin!’

Looks great. My mom used to make a similar version of this. Okra is criminally underrated, and my personal favorite southern food.

Big time southern cooking. My grandmother would make it the same way. I’d pick out just the okra and leave the matters for others.

That is some OLD school cooking there. The only thing missing from that picture is a piece of cornbread. ;)

That’s exactly what I was thinking while preparing it! Had a box of Jiffy handy, but that needed some of grandmama’s hoe cakes. Sadly, we were out of corn meal :(

Saturday afternoon family get together...

4EFFA535-7E0C-4616-A746-EC1E83362521.jpeg

Gulf shrimp, amber jack, crab claws, and all the trimmings! Cousin that lives in St. Mark’s sets this up every year. We met up at Pat Thomas State Park / Lake Talquin under the pavilion. Fried the seafood then set about making ourselves miserable...

It was a little overcast and a nice breeze was blowing off of the lake. Good fellowship to go along with good eatin.’ Even had some homemade banana pudding for dessert. Nobody wore a mask. Nobody seemed to care.

I could eat the entire last two trays all by myself. That looks incredible.

We’re a lot like the Darlings of Andy Griffith. Just come break bread and I’m sure we could work up some kinda distant kin. Only one thing...if you show up in an electric car with a man bun, the deal’s off :)

Took the kids and family camping this past weekend to a really cool spot. Service was spotty and out of touch at times. Here's night #2. 1st night was amazing Carne Asada tacos but the wife deleted the photos.

This is how a 60 year old gets lucky on his anniversary...

Took the missus to the Melting Pot to celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss. One of her cousins told her that if she’d have killed me instead of marrying me, she’d have been out of prison before now. Anyhow, we used to go to the Melting Pot occasionally before kids, so it was a nice spot to go and celebrate. We had a good waitress...

I was fortunate to have married well.
