Because our wonderful AD at the time had spent over a year rejecting resumes to zero in on a guy with a touch of Downs.
Seriously, how do you interview the last three guys we've hired and not wonder how they remain employed much less consider hiring them yourself.

I get maybe being desperate and convincing yourself that Mullinz and Chimp were idiot savants.... but Butters? he was all idiot no savant.

Muschamp is the guy who persistently asks the girl to marry him, only to be told no a hundred times, until she caves. That, plus Foley still feeling invincible, is how I see that going down. McElwain, I've got nothing, other than him offering to pay some of his own buyout, which would normally be a red flag, but with JF meant a larger yearend bonus. And don't forget, Mullen--who's better than the others anyway--was like the fifth interview of that cycle. After the embarrassment of "insiders", sports writers, and even a couple message board owners insisting that Chip was done, then being told to kick rocks by Frost(allegedly as he drove past the Newberry exit on 75 en route to Lincoln), the fact that Stricklin could even get a sit down with Mullen is probably a miracle.

They got hired because AD’s are like politicians.
They make stupid decisions that cost millions of dollars and for punishment they give themselves raises

I’m pretty sure he threw 3 or 4 interceptions against us one game; ya know, the one where we ended up with ~120 yards total offense.
Bingo. It was by far the worst game of his college career. Our defense was absolutely sick - and totally wasted.

I'd checked out by then and didn't actively watch. But mention that game to a friend of mine and he goes ballistic about one of those Int's where Poole had the entire field in front of him to the outside for a pick-6, but instead turned in and was subsequently tackled. Killed a score and honestly may have made the difference. He's shown me the clip a few times and it is pretty puzzling. The whole game sucked, but he swears it's all Poole's fault.

Last season was the exact same scenario for us except it was our offense that was absolutely sick and totally wasted.

Yeah, I remember that play crystal clear, like it was yesterday. I was watching the game at my parents’ house in Orlando. As soon as he turned inside instead of taking the wide open outside area at the top of the TV screen, I started screaming & dropping some eff bombs. I was mystified as to how he could be so stupid. He basically tackled himself by deliberately running into a 330 pound FSU offensive lineman. A pick 6 there would have been huge.

I guess that explains why Poole played defense. Terrible instincts with the ball.

Is there any chance this friend of yours goes by the last name "muschamp?" Is he will's dad or brother? While I agree Poole made a poor choice on that play...

When the offense gets to start their drive at approximately f$u's 11 yard line and giftwraps a pick 6 instead, the D wasn't the problem. You might want to tell your friend that blaming the top unit on the team for a loss makes him no smarter than muschamp.

hilarious that our only chance of scoring was by the defense, game after game. Jeff Dipshyt was good for one TD per game.

I think that was the year Treon took over mid season during the ut game. Still baffles me that muschamp blamed the D for every loss while the O got a free pass.

Remember, the purpose of the O is too keep the ball as long as possible without scoring. TOP is the key to college football. The ultimate coach will go 14-0, scoring 28 points in the season.

I still remember the turning point. We are about to go up a couple of scores and a lob pass from Treon, that was actually on target, bounced off our DE or I mean "TE" stone hands right to the defensive player for a 100 yard pick 6.

No, the D scores a safety to win 2-0. THAT was muschamp's ultimate fantasy. 6-0 with a pick 6 and missed fg is his #2.
No it's 8-0, not 6-0. Only score is a pick six by a safety, then the snap gets bobbled on the extra point so the holder pitches it to a backup DT on the kick protection team, who rumbles! Bumbles! Stumbles! across the goal line for a 2-pt conversion.
