The British Open, NOT The Open, NOT The Open Championship, The British fcvking Open is on this weekend. This & The Masters are my 2 favorite golf majors and I’m looking forward to what Saturday & Sunday hold.

Louie Oosthazelnumbnuts leads at the halfway mark. Will he close the deal this weekend and end his 11 year majors drought? What say you and who ya got?

For some reason, Looey can't seem to make any clutch putts on Sundays when the title is within his grasp. At the rate he is going he will overtake the Golden Bear...........as having more runner up finishes in Majors than anyone.

Oh, and has Bryson DeChambeau turned into a complete puzzy or what? He really let Brooks the FSWho butt plug alum get into his head this badly?

Thanks for starting this thread GiG. I think Louie certainly has the game and is a great putter, despite his problems at the US Open. Who knows that if where he’s at in life (rich, comfortable, past major victories) might have dulled his edge? So far, he’s made hay while the sun shines, figuratively speaking. Certainly there will be some appropriate and severe British Open weather to contend with before all is said and done. Then we’ll see if Louie has what it takes.

I wouldn’t rule out Morikawa nor Speith (especially if he gets another great line of sight drop ;)). DJ’s been pretty flat this year and maybe this is the weekend he breaks out? He’s got the strength and the wedge game. Anybody lower than -5 may likely need the top 3 to collapse. What the weather does may have the final say. Anybody but Koepka. Would add DeChambeau, but he’s out of it at Even Par. Serves his pompous @ss right for publicly (and unfairly) criticizing Cobra’s engineers.

Personally I don’t see Speith winning it. Immediately after his epic collapse in the major several years ago (Masters I believe, maybe 2016 or thereabouts) I felt like he was mentally damaged goods & done, and so far that’s been the case.

Like you, I think DJ could do it, however, my feeling is if it’s not Louie or DJ, then it will be somebody that is currently outside the top 5 of the leaderboard. Not sure who, but Rahm maybe? Or Casey?

@GatorInGeorgia Rahm winning would be a great story. Two Majors consecutively / same year puts him in a special class. Guy got hosed IMO at the Memorial, but at least he didn’t wind up killing anyone :rolleyes3:. But such are the times in which we live. Rebounded from it spectacularly. I watched his presser where he talked about being born with a club foot that resulted in one leg shorter than the other. Affected his balance and he adapted by shortening his takeaway and increasing club speed while developing his ball striking consistency. Watching him walk, you can tell the shorter leg. Wouldn’t have been noticeable had I not heard his story. He’s becoming a favorite as he matures. Saw him live at the Players when he dumped a shot out of the sand into the water and pretty much handed the tournament to Rory. He seems to have learned from youthful, aggressive errors.

Day 3 and the weather looks like they’re playing in Tampa. Weather is :pumper:and the wind very light, so much so that the rough hasn’t been a factor. Golfers in short sleeves, caddies in shirts…where are the toboggans, rain suits, and umbrellas? And the greens have been beyond slow. I haven’t seen so many putts coming up short, ever. If the traditional weather stays away tomorrow, we’ll see some phenomenal British Open scoring. Louie’s already made a mark at the halfway point at -11.

I was thinking the same thing. Links courses by their nature are not that difficult and usually wide open, but the issue is always the weather. When able to play a links course by being able to hit the ball high with a lot of short irons like a regular course means very low scores. But when the winds kick up, rain is falling and temperatures are lower, it is all about getting the ball onto the ground as soon as possible and letting it roll. That is when the British Open is fun to watch.

Oostie lost ground today to Morikawa & is only up by 1 stroke heading into the final round. He appears to be doing everything he can to piss away another major.

The announcers keep talking about how much Americans like links golf. We have seaside land with dunes here in the USA. What are our prominent links courses?

The PGA was just played on a “links style” course at Kiawah Island. There are many in Florida and in most coastal states.

Fun to watch today. Really like Morikawa, can't say enough about how impressive he is for such a young guy. He can't be more than 150 lbs sopping wet but he hits the ball a mile too.

He and Rahm are both fun to watch. Rahm is just playing lights out tee to green but he can't get any putts to fall. He could easily be 3 strokes better today but has burned the edge on so many putts.

You can tell Oosty is feeling it watching him hit those weak fades on so many approach shots. And blading that bunker shot was painful to watch.

I played 3 or 4 Links courses when I lived in the Chicago area, so some Links courses in the US are not seaside.

Saves par but still loses ground. 4 back now. And what was with that putt for birdie? Really poor putt. I think he’s checked out mentally.
